Weather info overlay
-
It seems the My Route App is being used for outdoor re recreation such as motorcyle riding and bicycling. I think it would be nice to have a weather radar layer and a local weather station layer that is synced with the planned route. This would allow cyclists to make navigation decisions as they are following the route.

@Garrett I can barely outrun a storm cloud on my motorcycle, good luck on a bicycle

Great suggestion @Garrett!
Something like this is already on our list -
@Corjan-Meijerink wonderful. I will look forward to it.
-
@Nick-Carthew you just need more advanced notice!

I have to wonder at times if people are asking more than is reasonable for a single app. Why spend time developing a weather map overlay when there are many very good quality weather apps that a person can switch to easily and quickly on the smart phone. Better to use limited resources on development not already easily available.

@Garrett @Doug-Robinson Itβs on the list as it really is a great suggestion and something we in The Netherlands would quite enjoy too.
Is it a priority now? Sure not!
-
Personally... I believe it's a good suggestion. I know the competition has plans to add this feature. On the other hand, I can also see the point of questioning it's overall value when other options already exist. For example, besides phone apps, there's "OnTheWay" for those that use CarPlay and "weather&radar" for those that use Android Auto.
Clear as mud.

The keyword here is "simultaneously".
Especially for freedriving it would be a pleasant addition
(and nothing more than that). -
@Doug-Robinson when leading group motorcycle rides, through multiple mountain ranges, we encounter multiple indivual weather systems. A weather overlay would allow us to make route changes on the fly due to developing weather patterns. Currently we stop every hour and need to review the weather apps, make adjustments to the route and then continue the trip.

@Corjan-Meijerink I'm sure there are other advancements that I have not thought of that are current priorities. I do think a weather overlay would raise the apps attractiveness to motorcycle riders here in the US. I have a ride group leader who told me to let him know if myroute adds my suggestion as he will be quite interested.

I find it a meaningful addition. For example: this summer, travelling by car from Switzerland towards the Netherlands during the weekend when Italy was being ravaged by hailstones as big as adult golf balls or junior tennis balls. We were about to enter the Netherlands when a storm front intersected my route, or at least that's how it seemed with the constant switching between various weather radars and MyRoute-app. Just to be sure, I stopped at a gas station at the designated time, and the rain was truly pouring down from the sky. Thankfully, no hail of the magnitude seen in Italy. That's why it's not only useful for cyclists and "leisure driving", but certainly also for regular commutes and motorcyclists.
