Export Route from MyRoute-app Next
-
Hi. There doesn’t seem to be much said about this, but I’m surprised that there is no export or “save as” functionality built into the app. For example, you plan a nice twisty route in the app, but want to edit it slightly or even use it elsewhere (Garmin XT).
I assume there is no way to do this currently? If so, is it a feature that likely to be released at any point soon?
Thanks.

Hai David,
Its obvious that you are very new here. Next to the app (I assume you mean the navigation app) there is a complete planner that allows making routes and exporting in a variety of formats.

@Drabslab thanks for the reply. I’m a long time user of the web based planning tools, but the scenario I’m describing here is - you are out on the bike, plan a short twisty route on the app, but want to use your dedicated device (Garmin XT in my case), but there’s no way to export this route.

@David-Skett-0, no there isn't indeed. It is on the developers wishlist, but I would not count on it being implemented short term. This wish is also valid for handing out the route to other MRA co-riders.

I'm not a Garmin user, but presumably Garmin has a service you can upload a route to, and then download it to the device?
If so, having created / modified a route (in the app -> Route lab) you can save the route to your phone, crudely, by emailing it to yourself:
- Page Menu -> Save as -> email route
(There may well be tidier ways, but that's the one I've spotted.)
Then upload that route file to the Garmin service, and download it to your Garmin.
For example TomTom users have their own MyDrive option in the same menu area, which removes the emailing step:
- Page Menu -> Save as -> TomTom MyDrive
Or maybe Garmin has an app for sharing routes on phones to satnavs? Straw-clutching there...

@Con-Hennekens Thanks Con. Hopefully it will come along soon……

@richtea999 Hi Richtea. I’m looking at doing it from the app, not via the website/Route lab. If you create your route (navigate to destination, choose twisty route options, then “Go”) just in the app, there is no option to save or export.

@David-Skett-0 Ah - got you.
Instead of the in-app generator, how about using the online one - only one extra step from above:
- app -> Route lab -> Generator -> enter route settings, etc
That will generate a round trip online, and then from the generated route use:
- Page Menu -> Save as -> email route, to your phone to extract the GPX.
[edit: it may clog up your normal online routes with a whole host of ad hoc ones that you may need clean up afterwards, of course.]

@richtea999 thanks again Richtea. That’s a decent workaround, so thanks for that, but it really would be nice to do just that directly from the app itself, not the website. Hopefully the devs are watching……
