    Attention everyone,

We are putting an early stop to the Season Challenge. We have selected the two people who participated to also be the winners. We'll send them rewards and they'll get a profile badge to celebrate the effort they put in.

Every once in a while we try to do something new in our community. To engage 'you guys' to the best of our possibilities both with your hobby and the MRA services. That's part marketing, part community management. For us it's always fun to design and try to organize these things.

The MRA Navigation Grand Tour, organized two years ago, was quite a succes. We hoped to improve on that formula with a 'lower entry, quicker reward' kind of system dubbed the Season Challenge. I thought that after the woes of corona the summer of '22 would be a good time to launch a campaign that would rekindle love for your hobby. Arrogance. You didn't need our campaign to get back on the road.

As such, the Season Challenge doesn't have many visitors and has little interaction. If anything, it has probably made us look silly and like we were not putting the right amount of effort where it counts. I can assure you that the only time wasted is that of me and the community management team. The devs never had to do redirect resources for the season challenge.

To try and keep looking ahead, I'd ask that anyone who is interested in contributing to our community, do take a look at the community engagement brainstorm I just created.

    Kind regards,

    Timo

      Arrogance.

I would not dare to call it arrogance! If every project failed would be consequence of "arrogance" then half the working, volunteering, undertaking polulation would be arrogant.

Perhaps this seasonal challenge was a bit misguided and certainly not the best idea MRA ever had, but then again...

If you are able to learn from it ... then it was a good experience

It is not difficult, it is easy, it's a hobby

I disagree that it was a bad idea. Many, if not all of the challenges were aimed at improving the knowledge of users of the MRA RoutePlanner. A lot of the questions often asked in this forum we’re catered for within the challenges. Maybe the timing wasn’t quite right, as Timo pointed out, at the time of launch we were coming out of lockdown and I think a lot of people were understandably keen to get away from their desks and to go out and explore again. I also think that the marketing side of the 2022 Season Challenge launch could have put a bit more emphasis on what the aims of the Season Challenge were, i.e. a fun way to learn.
I may be a little biased here, because it was me that set the challenges but putting that to one side, I’m still a firm believer in making learning fun. And I hope to be involved in any future community led challenges.

I do however agree that arrogance played no role in the MRA 2022 Season Challenge and lessons have already been learned.

          @Nick-Carthew

It was a fantastic idea but for touring 7 days plus I think there are some intrinsic barriers for me to consider.
For me the whole point of touring is to spend as much time on the bike as possible, that means long days in the Saddle.
By the time I arrive at the next Hotel/Campsite in the evening I’m am pretty much ready to crash, maybe a quick pint with a meal then ZZZZZzzzzzzzz….
So for me this is not a feasible option.

However, I generally ride for pleasure most of the year at weekends in the UK, except in torrential rain or snow.
I do not book campsites or hotels over these weekends and will travel back home Saturday and Sunday.
I would be more than happy to Blog/Document about day trips?

You don’t stop riding when you get old, you get old when you stop riding.

            Hello everyone thanks for understanding.

Perhaps I was a bit fast with calling it arrogance. I do agree that the ideas themselves were very fun and the challenges were good.

I've seen some good posts in the Brainstorm topic and will be looking with great interest at the evolution of that topic.

@Timo-Martosatiman-MRA Projects can, no matter the good intentions, the great idea's, the involvement and motivation of the resources, fail or be hugely successful for external reasons that the project has no influence on.

It is very useful to do a post mortem on any project, success or disaster, after it has ended and learn from it (and find area's for future projects 🙂 ).

It is not difficult, it is easy, it's a hobby
