Yesterday on a ride with a friend in the mountains, we stopped at a pass to rest for a moment and have a chat, when we started up again the app didn't want to know about starting up again and gave me the error that in order to continue we had to go ‘online’, but at that point there was no cell signal, so I wonder what's the point of offline navigation and downloading maps to the cell phone if when you need it it doesn't work.
Incidentally two thirds of the way through the ride, the app stopped working the information about the next turn and the road was no longer updating and the track on the route was correct but 200/300m behind, good thing I had passed the track to my friend as well and he guided me.

@ginogino I believe there is no full automation.
If you have planned the route in MRA-Routeplanner - and sync to myRoute-App is switched on in App - then you can simply open the route in myRoute-App to navigate with. But your phone needs to be online!
      (because planning was done online)!

If there is no connection to internet (during ride), may myRoute-App will still guide you some km. But sooner or later, you will get the error on screen: no connection - go offline!
Means, you really need to switch in the App to offline navigation. But this works only, if you have had downloaded in forefront, all maps of all regions, your route passes through! And that downloaded maps must be still up to date!

      Nothing is impossible ;-)
In past: GARMIN Zumo 210->GARMIN Zumo 395->GARMIN XT=> now: DMD T865-X + MyRoute-App, LocusMaps, OsmAnd.
In past: GARMIN MapSource ->GARMIN BaseCamp->Tyre->Kurviger->Calimoto=> now: MRA-Routplanner.

I started off with offline navigation switched off, when I stopped on the screen I could see the route to be taken perfectly, but when I selected ‘Navigate’ to continue the journey I would get the error go online, activating offline navigation and trying to continue the journey always told me to go online.

@ginogino, the interesting thing to know is: were you riding a pre-planned route (with waypoints) or were you using the roundtrip generator or some curvy options in an A2B route? Another interesting question is what your setting is for "Ride routes as tracks" in the app's settings.

The reason for my questions is: calculation of true track navigation can only be done online. The problem of no internet connection shows when a recalculation is necessary. Therefor my guess is that you were using the roundtrip generator or some curvy option to a destination (which in turn generates a track to follow).

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!

@Guzzist Hi mostly correct except for the downloaded maps. They don't have to be up to date to navigate offline but..... If they are outdated you might get some roads wrong

Offline is perfect for navigation through places where there is no or almost no internet connection. The biggest part of rural Germany is a good example.
Besides this, it saves you also a lot of data consumption.

              BUT (a big but).
When you need to start MRA while there is no internet connection at all. You have a problem. But not only with MRA. Other navigation apps won't run either.

(I use MRA Next only on Android Auto. Every comment, suggestion, etc will be based on my usage with Android Auto)

That's untrue. I use a navigation app on an android phone without a sim, so I have no internet connection at any time and I can navigate without any problem. it starts any saved route, it recalculates routes when needed etc...

                    Die Route war wie folgt:

                    link text

@ginogino, If you stop for a pause and wander around a bit, that can trigger a recalculation, and after a few times the forced skipping of a shaping point. To prevent that, you can stop your navigation, and resume once you ride off again. If you want to navigate completely offline, I advise also to disable "route as track" indeed.

I'm not sure if this has been implemented with the latest release, but "calculating" and navigating a track in offline mode works; here is an example (phone in flight mode and "offline navigation" enabled). "Use current location" needs to be deactivated, or course.

@Martin-Wilcke, yes it works, but not optimal. Small changes can occur to the track, since the app mimics the track instead of getting it from the cloud.

Yes, agree. This is due to the limited offline calculation capabilities compared to online ones. But anyway, it's absolutely brilliant!

When you need to start MRA while there is no internet connection at all. You have a problem

Can't confirm. What exactly is the problem when opening MRA without an internet connection?

I partially redid the ride from last time, this time with ‘navigate as track’ and ‘navigate offline’ deactivated, arrived at the same point as last time I stop and turn off the bike, on restarting the navigation doesn't work anymore, I had to get off the pass and as soon as I got a signal, restart navigation from the beginning, by the way even with the latest version released there is still the bug that if you start a route from the android auto when you are already on the route, myroute app makes you return to the starting point, I had to turn off the bike and android auto, from the app on the smartphone start the navigation and then turn on the bike and android auto.
