Due to unforeseen problems with the map supplier, we replaced the standard free map and map layers with the OpenStreetMap. We actually think this one is more detailed and nicer...

Good evening, having created a new route today on MRA I note that you now use Openstreetmap. I tried to download the map as usual to my Garmin sat nav but it would not download?
Can you please advise is this due to your new map source, if so what do I need to do to download my latest route?Regards
John Roberts -
@John-Roberts I’m not an expert with Garmin but for others to help it would be useful to know what Garmin model you have.
-
In an ideal world you should use the HERE Map for Garmin Devices as slight differences between OSM and HERE maps could cause some minor issues on the Garmin.
Here maps do require a Gold account however.Things to clarify as Nick mentioned:
Which Garmin Device do you have?
And also are you using a PC, Mac or MyRoute-App Mobile (iOS or Android) or even going directly to Routelab in a Browser, to transfer routes? -

I assume you mean "route" here, instead om "map". I cannot think of the download of a gpx to be dependent on the chosen map, especially since the OpenStreetMap was present already. Can you show a screenshot of what goes wrong exactly?

@Michel van Hagen
I am very un-happy with this, because now I can get differences between the map that MRA is using and the map that my Zumo XT is using.
It might be better that you resolve your problems with the card supplier as soon as possible, or I am forced to move to another route planner. -
@Andries-Mulder
Your Zumo XT is using de Here map.
You can select the Here map in the Menu <Default> to use this always for new routes?
Does that help you? -

Those that help you
???
Whaha. Corrected.
Sorry -
@Jack-van-Tilburg
It doesn't help me, because thats exactly what is no longer there.
It has been changed and that whole menu item is gone, so only one map is there now, which is OSM. -
@Andries-Mulder
Wrong. Its there again or it was always there.So MRA is very good (again)
My apologies for my mistake.

Now we have written evidence that you make mistakes

Dear Michel. When will it be possible to make use of the OSM in the navigation app?
I bought the app to use aspecially for my bike tours. In MRA it is possible to make very nice bike routes with the OSM. But in the navigation app it is impossible to play them.
Best regards, Baltus. -
@Baltus
Hi Baltus, no it is not possible. Navigation uses the Here-map. -
I am no Cyclist as I have skinny chicken legs, but in theory it would be possible to do this with MyRoute-App Mobile which is free.
You would not get turn by turn notifications but a route-track to visually follow.
In the screenshot below I have presumed that Purple is a Cycle Route on Wimbledon Common. (I may be wrong but it makes no difference, as you will know the Legend for cycles routes.)
Create the Waypoints on the OpenCycleMap Overlay.
Then save the file to your Computer/Mobile as gpx 1.0 (route, track, POI).
Then import the gpx file as a route-track.Then open the route on your mobile phone in the new MyRoute-App Mobile.

I think the cycling community is big enough for a serious effort to be made in this regard. Maybe there is room for a specific cycle Navigation app, that DOES use the OSM map? It would make the MRA ecosystem more complete. -

@Nick-Carthew
Nick, thanks for your reply. Ofcourse you can make bike routes with the MRA- mobile app. That is the same as MRA on the pc. But you can not use the app to navigate. Therefore you need the navigation app. But...... the navigation app only works with Here maps. If you load your OSM bike route.gpx into the navigation app than it rebuild your complete route, because the Here map does not have bikepaths. The new route sends you to the moon and even further. -
@Hans-van-de-Ven-MRA-Master
Hi Hans, thank you for your reply. Unforetunately it is not an answer on my question.
My question was not "If" but "when" will it be possible to make use of OSM maps in the Navigation-app.
I had already a liftime membership on MRA. So I knew already how to make routes for my motortours and how to make biketours.
For my motortours i use my Garmin GPS. But i had no device to ride my bike tours. Later on, when the Navigation-app was introduced, there was mentioned that you do not need a gps device anymore. Simply use your phone or a ruggedized tablet.
But no warning about a ristriction for only Here maps. Also nowedays there is no warning. I think it is a missed opportunity if it stays so.
I think there are enough cyclists to make a special effort for that group
So Hans, please an answer on my question -

Design a route on the OSM planning map (use the OpenCyclemap overlay) and choose cycling as the form of transport. Then open that route in the MRA Mobile app and click the arrow in the bottom right of the screen twice, you will see that the position cursor changes to a blue arrow, you are now in navigation mode. Navigation is only follow the line with no spoken instructions but it does have auto zoom that changes the zoom level with speed.
