On a Mc use an SD-card, not a cable.

@Mike-wiruth Connect your Garmin to your computer.
Drag or copy the GPX file to the GPX folder on your Garmin.

@Peter-Zehentreiter in my opinion unnecessary complicated. Just connect the XT to your computer. Wait until the device and sd are recognised then use the connector in MRA to export the route using the 1.2 format. Works like a charm

@Marinus-van-Deudekom Well, that's not exactly complicated...
I'm simply describing the standard method for transferring GPX files to a Garmin device.

I realize there are different ways to do it, and I know how they work.

@Marinus-van-Deudekom MRA connector and XT with sd-card. I wish you lots of succes, most of the time it will not succeed with a sd-card.
Save the route(s) and drag them, in case of more routes, to the XT itself (I use good old Total Commander for it), de SD is in my case only for music. In case of emergency (XT has to set back to factory settings or hard reset) you can put them on your XT with your phone and the Drive app.
          I agree with the 1.2

Met andere apps maak je een route, met MRA componeer je een route!

There are a few posts referencing SD card here. I'm not sure if some of the advice given is to use it to store routes on your XT, or not.

My advice is to use the SD card you place in the XT slot. Simply create a Garmin/GPX folder on the card and copy your GPX file directly into it. The XT will recognize it existence, import/recalculate it, and store it for execution. The advantage is that if your route ever gets corrupted, you can quickly re-import it from the SD card and be on your way. If you import into Garmin internal storage and corruption happens, you have to go back to MRA and perform the transfer process from scratch. Admittedly, this a rare occurrence, but the one time it happened to me was at the worst possible instance. As always, plan for the worst, but hope for the best.

In any case, a direct wired file copy (manually performed by you) from your PC/Mac to your Garmin is always the safest method. Anytime you use a transfer intermediary (Drive app, Tread app, MRA Connector), there is a possibility that the process can break. For reasons totally out of your control.

If you want to learn about the use of the SD Card for routes, reference the following from user "jfheath", the moderator of the Zumo XT Forum out the UK. If you don't know of him, he's probably forgotten more about the XT than most of us know. Anyway, here is some of the documentation he's compiled:

First, the master list of topics:

                        https://zumouserforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=3361

And the specific 3.08 section on using the SD Card for GPX Files:

                        https://zumouserforums.co.uk/XT2-P338

                        From the link:

**You may notice in older posts about other Zumos that I have recommended using Internal Storage for GPX files. Not any more. For the XT2 I always transfer my GPX files to the SD card. The files cannot get altered and nothing gets deleted.

More than anything - the behaviour is predictable. And if your Zumo Collections get messed up, you can delete the lot and import them again.**

He's talking about the XT2, but from my personal experience, it also applies directly to the XT and XT3.

That forum is a treasure trove of Zumo XT/XT2/XT3 information. If you ever decide to give the XT's a try again (hopefully an XT3), following the teachings in that forum will give you a fighting chance of success the next time around.

Thanks everyone. I finally got it. I love the connector to export. Something I learned on the garmin site was 1.2 doesn't transfer right which is what I experienced. I exported 1.1 and it all worked great. Thank goodness as I leave Saturday and they are predicting rain. Don't want to leave my phone out in the rain.

@Mike-wiruth One thing that I have found about the Connector, and PC connections to the Zumo in general. I have had long-term intermittent issues with my Win11 computer connecting to the Zumo, the GPS would not show up in Windows explorer, and of course would not work with the Connector app either. After some research, I was able to set the USB port properties so that connection was more reliable.

In the Device Manager, I selected the individual USB ports, right click for 'Properties', select the 'Power Management' tab, and clear the check box for 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. Since this is a desktop computer, there is no need for power management.

I hope this information is helpful to other MRA / Garmin users.
