Now that I have learned that it is possible to synchronise routes individually OR as part of the entire library, I was wondering if there is a way to synchronise a small batch in one go?

I do not want to synchronise my entire library, as I’d much rather leave the library of ‘original’ routes intact and unaltered. What though I have been doing is creating a folder for a trip (for instance from London to Spa in Belgium) and, within it, creating a sub-folder of the routes I wish to synchronise, copying the ‘original’ routes into it and changing their name. The copied routes I can then synchronise individually.

What I was hoping was to find a way to say, select all the routes in the sub-folder and synchronise them as a batch, all at once, rather than individually.

Is it possible to do a batch synchronisation and if so how?

If it is not possible to perform a batch synchronisation of a batch of routes, might this be considered for an update in the future?

Thanks for any news and comment.

    Richard

Hi @Richard-18 thats sounds like quite a bit of work you have been doing copying & renaming

My question is what do you think is going to change with your library?
All the sync does is make the same file available on both the web site & in the mobile app
As far as I understand there will be no change to the original file / route
I believe the whole purpose of sync was to help stop all the copying / downloading of files / routes

i also like the idea to sync only folder/maps you want. on vacation or tours i only need the final routes. old and still in progress are in webplanner ok but not needed in MRA Next.

I agree with @Brian-McG Why not have all of your routes available for offline navigation?

Not so, I’m afraid. At least as far as I can tell in my experiments, practicing to see how it all works.

If an ‘original’ route, for instance one that I hold in my library, is synchronised with and then amended in the app (say for example by shortening or extending theroute) the changes will be synchronised back to the original.

That is, I guess, one of the purposes behind synchronisation: That changes made elsewhere will be synchronised and made binding elsewhere.

          See example below, please.

            Original route in Routeplanner:

The same original route, synchronised in the app:

The two match, as one would expect.

I then amended the synchronised version in the app, by extending it and mucked about with the waypoints:

The changes were synchronised back to the original:

@Richard-18 If you change something in a route and then want to check if that is being synced. Go online with that device and you will see that it will be synced.

Marinus, thank you for your post.

                By way of reply:

I know that if a synchronised route is altered, the changes will be synchronised through the chain, as shown in the post with the pictures above.

                I like the synchronisation tool.

I like that I can synchronise individual routes, as opposed to synchronising the entire library. That is a very good option to have.

I like that I can create a copy of a ‘original’ route snd synchronise the copy, leaving the ‘original’ untouched and unsynchronised.

I like that any changes I make to the copy version of the ‘original’ route, will be synchronised with and replicated along the chain, whilst the ‘original’ still remains unaffected and unaltered.

All of this I am happy with.

What I really would like to know is if there is any way to select a number of routes (as opposed to just a single route or all of the library) and whether it is then possible synchronise that batch of routes all at once, rather than synchronising each route individually?

If there is a way to do it, I would like to hear it, please.

If there is no way to do it, I’d like to know if it could be offered as an option in the future, please?

                Thanks,

                Richard.

Hi @Richard-18 I appreciate you would like to be able to select & sync a batch or folder of routes & there may be a use case for this although I cannot think of any
It is a valid & decent suggestion to make

but I am sorry I find your explantion for the altering of the original route as frankly a little bit daft. If you change a route of course it is altered, it is the same file.
It is like saying I created a route, closed it, opened, amended it, & now for some reason its changed!

If you dont want to change a route & keep that as an original, you make a copy & edit the copy
Then in both cases the routes, the original & copy can are syncronised & available to you both in the web planner & on the mobile app

@Richard-18 If you could explain why you do not want to synchronise all of your routes, it would help us and the developers understand your request to be able to select a batch (individual folders) for synchronisation.

Brian, I fully understand how the synchronisation works, its purpose and the why’s and wherefore’s of it all. No dispute or hard feelings there, I promise.

Nick, I have a huge library of well over a thousand routes, which I have used and / or have gleaned up from elsewhere, simply to use perhaps at sometime or because I have shared them on another forum, to give people some possible ideas. In short, I have no need to synchronise the lot.

What though is important to me, is that I leave the library of individual routes unaltered. That might well be just me, but (like the P in personal computer) what makes sense to one person, might not always make sense to another.

I am perfectly happy with being able to synchronise individual routes, one at time, which I do by making a copy and then synchronising the copy. These I put into a separate sub-folder, safe in the knowledge that the ‘original’ route from which the copy was made, will remain untouched. I guess it’s just the P thing in action again? It works for me, that’s all.

If though there is a way to select say, 10 routes and synchronise them en block (rather than individually) that would be even better. If there isn’t and there never will be, so be it; I’m still quite happy.

                      Cheers,

                      Richard

Although I would really appreciate folders being selectable for sync, as a go-in-between to just single routes or all routes, I think you should consider that my 300+ routes were synced completely in less then 50MB. So I am inclined to say that synced routes will not be in your way memory-wise. The idea of a complete sync is that, since there also is an in-app planner module, you can do whatever you can do online, also offline in your app.

This method kind of defies the purpose of syncing. If you want to change a route without overwriting the existing one, you make a copy in your online library as well. Why not use the same method in the app?

But again, I think the idea of enabling syncing folder-wise would be a good idea too, although not completely by your argumentation 😉

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!

@Richard-18 said in Synchronisation - A batch of routes?:

I have a huge library of well over a thousand routes, which I have used and / or have gleaned up from elsewhere, simply to use perhaps at sometime or because I have shared them on another forum, to give people some possible ideas.

Whilst we might not agree on the method I use and / or whether or not to synchronise an entire library, in other words: “What works for me, doesn’t work for you”, I can see that we agree on:

                            A. It’s good to have the ability to synchronise an entire library, for those who want to do it

                            B. It’s good to have the ability to synchronise single routes individually

                            C. It would be good to synchronise several routes, held in a folder, all at one. Rather than having to do them individually

Hopefully item C will become available in an update? If not, I’ll stick with my method.

                            Best wishes,
