Automatic save the tracklog
-
As some people already know i do not like to fiddle with al lot function/buttons shortly before, during, and directly after driving.
I like the automatic start of the tracklog when riding a route. But you need to manual stop and save this tracklog.
Add a automatic save option at 0:00 am, If the manual stop and save is not used
If you turn off your phone after driving (mostly people who have separate phone for navigation) , the auto-save will be done the next time you open the MRA app again or start-up the phone. This was one thing i loved of a Zumo. Auto tracking as soon as you startup the Zumo. Downside was the way these tracklog are organised. Most people did not know how to use the tracklogs.
MRA does a great job with the auto start option but i miss the auto stop/save option.

@M-Schrijver I totally understand your vision!
However, I’m not sure this is as easy as it sounds.Automatically saving your tracklog at a certain time can be hours after you actually stopped. This results in unrealistic statistics.
Saving it when stopping navigation? Could be but many, many users stop navigation when at lunch.
Saving it when dismissing the resume prompt? Again possible but many people load multiple roads for a single tracklog. Also people like to record multiple day rides in a single tracklog.
Yes, everything can be an option but where forgetting to start is really annoying, forgetting to end is something fundamentally different
My opinion

I understand what you mean.
Being lazy (i call it efficient) is kind my nature. Especially with these kinds of things. Why do things manually when the software can do it for you. Also a reason why i have a automatic gearbox in my Goldwing. -
@M-Schrijver said in Automatic save the tracklog:

NOOOOOOOOO!
There's a subtle difference between a quickshifter and an automatic gearbox.
Corjan is offering you the quickshifter. Better in most scenarios, but you have to engage with it (in both senses of the word!) - just a little.

Many people do not appreciate the quality of a DCT. It is fully automatic. It makes the bike al lot quicker. But still you can drive it fully manual with a pedal if you like.
Honda did show the way. And does is again with the e-clutch. This the better quickshifter. According to many who already have driven it.
Yamaha will come with an semi automatic geabox. Probably on the MT-09 and/or MT-07 series.BMW will come with automatic/semi automatic gearbox for it's boxer engines. And i suspect also for it's 6-cylinder engine.
Sorry, this is the near future. No gearbox at all comes after that.
A nice video of the Goldwing DCT

@Corjan-Meijerink Yesterday I was riding on my bike with MRA for navigation. After I returned I remembered that I need to stop recording. I wondered why my 60 km ride was shown as 290 km ride and a duration of 85 hours. Then I saw that the tracklog was running for days as I forgot to stop it some days back after my former ride. This tracklog is kind of useless to me.
Even though the BMW Connected app is not really good it has a feature to define when to stop recording by defining the max break time. This is something I really like and I would appreciate to have such a feature in MRA, too.
Thx and cheers, Thomas -
@Corjan-Meijerink Happy with your rationale for why there is no auto stop recording of tracklog and this works fine for me if I am just using my phone. However, it would be handy to be able to see on CarPlay that a tracklog is being recorded, particularly when you select the screen and the top menu bar appears with exit, search and settings etc. I quite often forget that I am recording because I am not seeing the active recoding on the screen.
Just a thought.

It can be made as a setting (Auto Save on/off)
I like to have lot of settings. With these settings i can make software work how i like it work. -
@M-Schrijver, and yet some people are complaining about the app being too complex with all those options... Sometimes you just need to adapt yourself, instead of the software.
-
@Con-Hennekens I do not agree. I am a softwrae developer and from my pov software shall provide maximum flexibility w/o forcing people to adapt.
