@Jack-van-Tilburg, I am sorry you feel it that way. I am not trying to challenge any one or anything.

@Con-Hennekens @Jack-van-Tilburg sorry guys i really did not intend to create any controverse here. I just believe that combining planning and navigating will lead to capabilities that will go beyond what can be transfered to third party gps devices.

This should not be a hostile act to annoy users completely happy with other gps devices.

Me remark was triggered by the announcement that now extra symbols first introduced in the planner are available on the next navigation. But lets close the subject now, i hope no harm done

It is not difficult, it is easy, it's a hobby

Yesterday, I used the new version on my OnePlus 6T following a 35 km route in online mode. In the morning from home to work and in the afternoon from work to home. In the morning it all worked ok without any problem. However, in the afternoon the app was constantly switching during the whole route between online and offline mode. When back in online mode it was always searching quite some time for a GPS signal and when it has found GPS, it almost directly switched to offline mode. On my phone I could see that it had a 4G mobile connection. Don't know whether this is an app problem because in the morning everything was ok. Back home I did a reset of my GPS information but could not test it already.

@Arno-0 I have had the same problem the last couple of days with 4.06 -231 with Android 14 (Pixel 6 Pro). I manually switched to offline for a while and then changed back to online after which there were no more issues.

The problem for me always seems to occur when I start the route and does not seem to stop unless I force offline for a while, or I cancel navigation of a route and then restart.

Very strange and I am not sure what is going on. More testing needed.

Kind Regards. Help where I can.

It is not the GPS signal that gets lost. The icon with the round arrows means it is trying a recalculation. Without internet connection in online mode that is impossible.

Yes very strange indeed. This has been going on for several updates already. The internet-check detects a live connection and puts the phone in online status. A recalculation makes use of that connection, times out (at which time you see the icon with the round arrows) and decides to put it in offline mode again. Repeat.

I am assuming a problem with DNS or gateway after changing the method of internet connection (wifi to GSM or vice versa). What would be interesting to see is if it keeps occuring after starting the app and the route in GSM mode (so switch off wifi before starting the app).

Ok. Good idea. I will give that a go with WiFi off next time. Additionally, it seems to only happen on my Android phone and not my iPhone. More testing needed with both devices and I will report back.

                  @Con-Hennekens thanks for your explanation.

"What would be interesting to see is if it keeps occuring after starting the app and the route in GSM mode (so switch off wifi before starting the app)."

I was not connected to WiFi but used the mobile Internet connection from my phone so this does not solve the problem.

@Arno-0 I think what @Con-Hennekens is saying is to turn off WiFi so that your device is not searching for a WiFi network as it may be this searching (even when not connected to a WiFi network) that may be triggering the problem. Indeed, this WiFi search may be the cause given my experience so far, particularly when leaving home but I will test this next week.

@Arno-0 and @Dave-J-0, no what I meant is if this happens after having started the route from an active wifi connection, after you switch to an active gsm data connection. You know, when you start a route at home still connected to wifi, and your phone switches to gsm data when you leave your driveway. I am suspecting the app still tries to use DNS servers from the connection it started on. Or something similar.

@Con-Hennekens That could maybe be the cause of this problem. I use the phone only for navigation on my motorbike and I think that WiFi was switched off when I left home in the morning. At work, I remember, I turned it on to update the maps and think it was still active when I went home in the afternoon. I will test again what happens when WiFi is not active at all next week.

Today, I tested again the same route to and from the Office. I took care that I only used my mobile connection to both start and drive the route. The test was successful and I did not encounter any problems with constantly switching between online and offline modes and route calculations etc. So it seems important to not use different internet connections for starting and driving your routes.

@Arno-0, Thank you! I know it is asking a lot, but it would be great to see if this is really structural. So if you have the chance, repeat the test a few times, to deduct if it is really only happening when you started the route on wifi. I am doing the same thing, and it certainly looks that way.

@Con-Hennekens I've done the same thing. When starting a route being connected to my home WiFi network the same problems occur.
Your explanation could be the cause of the problem. When starting a route in gsm mode no problems. It seems to me that the problem only occurs when starting an A to B route and not with a planned trip
I' ve posted a couple times with the same problem

@Marinus-van-Deudekom I only checked it for planned routes and not for A-B routing. You say "it seems to me" but did you really test it or is it only a thought?

@Con-Hennekens I've done the same thing. When starting a route being connected to my home WiFi network the same problems occur.
Your explanation could be the cause of the problem. When starting a route in gsm mode no problems. It seems to me that the problem only occurs when starting an A to B route and not with a planned trip
I' ve posted a couple times with the same problem
Hope the team can find a solution

Well, I am experiencing this with planned routes too. Direct routes I have not tried 😉 So it definitely is not limited to direct routes.

@Arno-0 with a planned route I didn’t have the problem. With A B routes I had problems. Since You and @Con-Hennekens both had the problems with a planned route we’re Back to square one with thinking it has something to do with starting with WiFi connections.

@Marinus-van-Deudekom, I don't see why we are back to square one. If a problem arises when switching networks, why would that only affect direct-routes or only multi-waypoints routes? In both cases, in online mode, data traffic will be generated by the app. So we are definitely not back to square one 😉

If you do that, and nothing happens, try a detour, forcing the app to recalculate. Do that on online mode of course. Thank for your cooperation.
