Quad lock versus SP to protect your mounted smartphone
-
I'm wondering if someone has experience with the wireless charging version of Quad Lock and/or SP.
And of course, what would be the beste choice tb buy.As I understand, both Quad Lock and SP have wireless charging options and have optional dempeners, two reasons why I consider buying one of these.
All tips are welcome!

I have the Quad Lock kit on my Tiger with the Vibration Dampener and the Wireless charger.
I mount it to a 1” Ball so I can put it on my Honda 250 Rally as well.
And also, so I can take the whole thing off and put it in the back box during lunch stops etc.
Works great.
Power comes from a QC3.0 plugged in the the DIN socket on both bikes.
The QC3.0 Power is a must.
On a full days ride regardless of the phones charge it will always be 100% at the end of the day.
My phone is a Samsung S21+.I cant comment on the SP as I never used or even seen one.

@Dikke-Wim I'm very happy with the Quad Lock product, I have different mounts: in car, on bike, on vespa and on step ... the optional dempener works perfect ! For Wireless charging you still need a cable (from charging unit to bike) ...

@Dikke-Wim SP using the vibration damper with 15W wireless charging mount. Now using the SPC+ new variant with cases and the set up is working brilliant. The cases also enable mag charge for both my Android Pixel 6 Pro and my iPhone 12 Pro on my mag charge mounts at home. Not used Quad Lock so I cannot do a comparison.

I recently switch to quadlock with the vibration damper. I love it. I didn't get the wireless charger option at this time because the phone I use for navigation does not support it.
-
@Doug-Robinson Quadlock with no vibration damper. The best BMWs don't need it.
It works well - recommended.
-
Thanks all for sharing your experience.

Isn't wireless charging usually slower then cable charging? I read many comments on battery drain. I can imagine that problem will be bigger when charging wireless.
-
Not if you have a QC3.0 Din Plug Charger for Samsung phones.
Even when I’m recording my screen when using the beta on the road, the percentage will always be creeping slowly upwards.
I never use navigation voice prompts or have any music on the phone and only have the Next App running.
Also Samsung Phones, in my experience, are renowned for falsely reporting moisture ingress when charging directly with a USB lead, particularly on a motorbike. -
Here is what QuadLock say about their wireless charger. QuadLock Wireless Charger

@Lynchy67 i don't understand this, Quad lock says
: Please Note:
Apple devices charge at a maximum of 7.5W.
The Galaxy S22, S21, S20 and Note20 ranges will charge wirelessly at a maximum of 5W.QC3is up to 36w , but the charging head will never do that.
Also following cause I had some charging issue in rain , phone complained about moisture in port. So would like to switch to wireless but don't know if it will keep up... -
If you have 5 minutes then watch the video below which is sped up 6x.
This is the video from last week that had the Waypoints numbers jumping ahead.
Power Source is a £13 QC3.0 Din Plug from Amazon.
Keep your eye on the Phone Percentage.
No Drain whatsoever.
Bare in mind that I was also screen recording on the phone. -
The S21+ can do Super Fast Charging and Fast Wireless Charging.
Fast Wireless Charging is what QC3.0 provides.
They claim it is up to 4 times faster? -
@Lynchy67 My issue is that the information on the quadlock (website) is a bit confusing. What is the poweroutput/capability of the wireless head.
it says fast charging supported, but also says the limitation power output on some devices.
So I am a bit lost there . Even if you would have a QC3 power in to the wireless head, that will not be passed through by the wireless head, as that limits the output.(I am using a spigen tough armor case now, and is the drop protection of quadlock as good as that.) It is a lot of money for those Quadlock and SP setups.... so a wireless RAM universal grip could also be an option.

@Dikke-Wim
I have the RAM−HOL−UN14WB, RAM Tough−Charge Quick−Grip, and this holds my iPhone XS (6.1”) very well. Especially with the extra rubber band (supplied ). It charges with 5V USB so that should provide 5W I guess.I have used it on a 1 hour ride with MRA NEXT Beta 3.2.15 and the battery went DOWN from 76 to 56%! So that sucks.
I can’t use MRA on an all day ride if power consumption is not improved. ( Like in time for my upcoming Norway trip next month). On the return ride I killed the MRA app and left all other apps (like music) on and the battery % stayed at the exact same level.
In other words, MRA Next 3.2.15 drains the battery faster than it can be charged with QI charger. -
@Corné-Voogt Tough-Charge should be 10W (on RAM site , I was new ones that should go up to 15W). But then an additional issue may occur? overheating?
according to motormount.nl RAM-HOL-UN14WB-V7M-1 should go up to 15W -
@Corné-Voogt said in Quad lock versus SP to protect your mounted smartphone:
and left all other apps (like music) on and the battery % stayed at the exact same level.
I think if this happens, it is not only MRA draining your battery.

A little background for context. I do food delivery of up to ten hours a day, rain or shine. I have used the SP and Quad lock. In the beginning SP had better hardware (metal) and the Quad lock was plastic. SP also had wireless charging. So I went with SP. Fantastic hardware, poor electronic changing. My unit was replaced three times. IN NZ the distributor had so many claims they stopped supplying the product. Got a new iPhone 14 Pro Max, so changed to Quad lock system. That hurt, LOL. Currently can buy metal parts so good quality now. Wireless charging and vibration damper is great. Lock is OK but more fiddly than SP. I remove phone from bike twice every delivery so SP was better/quicker. Quad have a great Glass stick-on screen protector to fit a ph in their case, which works with standard magnetic charger as well as QL charger without removing case. Case also seems more water proof with no leakage into back of ph through camera holes. Over all, the QL is better in may opinion.

I have a Quad Lock vibration dampener with wireless charger and am very satisfied with it.

I now see that for Quad Lock there is a 'poncho' available to prevent clicks on your smartphone by raindrops.
Maybe THE solution for the rain problems discussed above.
