Overriding Winter Closures?
-
Friends,
I am planning a route around the French Alps that we will ride in May. Right now, some passes are apparently closed, which makes the planner route around these closures. But the snow will (hopefully!) be gone when we ride the route.
Can I tell the planner to ignore the closures now so that I can plan our routes for May?
(I believe I saw post about this previously but I can't find it, so please forgive the repeated question.)
Thanks,
Vinnie

@Vincent-Curren
When are you heading towards the French Alps? Do you know if there's a certain period when those passes are closed? And which map/layer do you use in MRA?
In the Toolkit menu there's an option to disable seasonal closures. Have you tried that? -
Thanks, the option in the toolkit was what I was looking for. Sorry about the obvious question! I knew it was possible but couldn't recall how to get to it!
We'll be riding from May 11 to May 25, and we're staying in France. We will stay in Moustier, Nyons, Le Puy, Villard de Lans, and Crots, a few nights in each place, riding loops with each hotel as a base. It will be mid-May by the time we get to Le Puy and Villard (near Vercors), so I expect most passes will be open by then. Since we're riding loops, all weneed to do is to get from one hotel to the next every few days. Otherwise, we can be completely flexible about where we ride if some of the passes are closed.
We did a similar thing last year, riding through the Pyrenees, and it worked out well. Hoping for the same this year!
Thanks again for the info.

And, sorry @Nomko-Nomden, I forgot to answer about maps: I'm planning using HERE, but I'm using the Michelin overlay to help identify good rides. I'm also looking through the expert routes in the area. I've already adapted one to create a loop near Crots; I'll be looking at others over the coming days.
Thanks again,

A follow up question as I work on this route...
I spend a few hours this afternoon trying to plan a route from Crots to Nice, using D902 or D908 to the south of Barcelonette. The routing engine would not allow me to continue down either of those roads. Both roads appear to be closed. I have "ignore seasonal closures" turned on. So, either that feature is not working as expected, or the roads are truly closed for some other reason - rock slides, rebuilding, etc., or the roads are closed due to snow but the information provider isn't distinguishing between snow and other kinds of closures.
Can anyone confirm that the ignore seasonal closures feature is actually working, or provide any other insight? Meanwhile, I've found an okay route avoiding these roads so I will continue to "keep calm and carry on!"
Thanks,
Vinnie -
Seems to work for me, but maybe I haven't picked quite the correct roads?
-
Doggone it, how did you do that?? !!
I tried for a couple of hours and couldn't get it to work.
I'll check tomorrow to see if it's working again, maybe it was just a temporary situation.Meanwhile, thanks for taking the time to try it and to respond, and I've copied the route into my library.
Thanks again!
