PRESS RELEASE: MyRoute-app finally gains access to Apple Carplay
-
Attention community,
By your request we've chased down the opportunity to develop products for next-generation vehicles outfitted with Apple Carplay. On behalf of the team I'm very happy to announce that MyRoute-app has finally been granted access to Apple Carplay development. This means that we will be able to make our apps available on Apple Carplay in the future.
We've been petitioning both Google and Apple to grant us access to their respective systems since 2018. Every single time we've been ignored. At the same time, many members in this community who use Carplay kept asking us when they could expect Navigation to become available for those systems. As a final act of defiance we reached out to the European Commission's Anti-Trust Agency. After gathering knowledge about our rights, we made a final plea to both Google and Apple to grant us access.
Slightly later than requested, we gained word from Apple that they had failed to pick up our previous requests. They immediately granted us access to the Apple Development area (for which we are very grateful). We look forward to working with apple to bringing MyRoute-app to Carplay compatible devices. Since we are now finally in contact with Apple and have received an explanation for the events as well as a workable solution, we will not pursue an Anti-Trust investigation. Sadly, since Google hasn't reacted, we will have to come up with a different strategy.
In light of continued full transperency, see the attached communications between Apple and MyRoute-app below. We've omitted all private and project information for reasons of privacy and partnership.

@Timo-Martosatiman-MRA Hi Timo, good to hear! Any idea how long it will take before we can use MRA via Apple Carplay?
-
@Michael-48 Hi Michael, no estimate yet in terms of development. For design it'll take a few weeks to adapt the current MRA Navigation design to the Carplay specific design guidelines. In essence this comes down to making sure that MRA Navigation remains recognizable whilst completely adhering to User Interface, User Experience and User Safety rules that Apple has outlined in a big document.
We're very aware of how much the community wants this feature though, so expect our resources to be dedicated adequately.
Thank you!
Kind regads,
Timo

Bravo MRA. There are many companies that could learn a lesson from your openness and transparency and in sharing this Information with your customers. I take my hat off to you.
-
it's called a helmet Nick, a helmet.
But I agree, I have never come across such openness.
What surprises me even more is that the users are not punishing them for being so open. In the beginning I expected tons of bagger but it all remains within civilized boundaries.
There is still hope

@Drabslab OK, I take my helmet off to MRA. I think MRAs philosophy is spot on . It helps to create a feeling that we all belong and this is evidenced by how helpful members of this forum are, like yourself.
Well done team MRA and all of its members. -

-
Great news guys... how long do you think development will take?
-

Nice, but it would be better to make the possible to switch-off recalculation! -
This is great news. Look forward to enjoying the app in my car.
-
Good News. Cant wait to see it guys.

Nice, but it would be better to make the possible to switch-off recalculation! This is off-topic completely but:
I don't know if you have any experience with MRA Navigation at all, but the idea of rcalculation being needed to switch off is ONLY applicable to Garmin devices. MRA Navigation is NOT for track-based navigation, it is for route-based navigation, so there is no need for recalculation being turned off. -
@Timo-Martosatiman-MRA
HI TIMO,
THIS IS GREAT NEWS, HOWEVER I WONDER WHAT FUNCTION THE MYROUTE APP (alone) SHALL BRING IN CARPLAY, IF YOU TO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO NAVIGATION ?!
This is of special interest, especially as I have issues with the export of the track ( see separate post I made this morning i the forum)

Yes! Yes! Trop content, y plus qu'a......Et c'est pour quand du coup?
-
@leschner we will research all possiblities within the Carplay licence, including our normal MRA app. If this proves to add value for the experience of our members we will develop it.
@Neuman-Didier no official estimates yet, later this year (probably).

Looking forward to have my navigation via Carplay! A great achievement. Keep up the good work!
