Re-routing when going off the route
-
I have downloaded routes to Garmin Zumo XT and on occasion when I have missed a turn the display just shows a dashed line to where I should be. It doesn't give me a re-direct. Is this something to do with the way I have either MRA set up or is it something on Zumo XT that needs changing? On my old 660 I would get a re-direct come on to the display which was far more useful.

MRA just provides the route or the track. What happens on your device is up to your device (or how you have set it up)
-
your zumo XT will do this when you are navigating a route as a track and NOT a trip.
i.e. in apps you chose your route in tracks and NOT in trip planner
hope this makes sense
-
@paul-69 thanks for that, so when saving in MRA save differently as a trip and not a track.
-
@Con-Hennekens I'll haev another look at the zumo but cannot see how to change but I'll look harder!
-
@Chris-Gossop If you re routing om your XT you have to change that in settings.
My advice to you, dont change it because in the XT there's a bug with imported routes. If you make re routing, recalculating, possible it will mess up your trip. Tried it a lot and gave up. Garmin states it has nothing to do with the system but it does. They wont admidd it. -
@Chris-Gossop, if you export a route to your device, do you see it in trips afterwards? If so, use that instead of the track. BUT make sure you have all navigation settings (like avoid highways, toll roads and things like that) exactly the same as in the planner (best to leave everything default so you have no worries about that). If you want to navigate the route with waypoints (and re-routing when missing a turn) your device calculates the route for itself. So it is important to have calculation settings on both ends identical. And of course use the HERE map. If your route does not appear in trips, there seems to be a problem with Garmin drive where it skips the routes and only transfers the tracks. Search through this forum to learn about that, I can't help there, I don't have any Zumos anymore.

@Con-Hennekens it is a problem with XT. Re routing on gives you problems. I make my routes with MRA on a pc. I make sure there's enough waypoints that the route goes where I want it to go. No restrictions while planning. Export the route using Drive. In the XT use the trip not the track. No restrictions on the XT. Re routing off. If I miss a waypoint find the route again visually or even better using the MRA app on my phone. Due to a bug in the XT all imported routes seem to be discriminated by the XT and thereby handeld in a different way. Re routing messes up your complete route once you miss a waypoint.

@Marinus-van-Deudekom, Are you saying that after the re-calculation the route does not comply to waypoints anymore? Well, I am glad I turned over to MRA completely
-
@Con-Hennekens It does compli with the way points but it makes a route of its own. A route of about 200 km became about 450 due to all the extras I didn't want. This bug in the XT makes re routing almost impossible
-
@Marinus-van-Deudekom, Is that a common error on XT devices? I cannot imagine the Zumo coming up with 250km of extra road while being setup for the quickest way... Silly question maybe: do you have the OnRoute Motormap activated by any chance?
-
@Con-Hennekens no Onroute map
I hear itβs a bug on the XT -
@Marinus-van-Deudekom, ok, a rather severe one I would say... thanks!

@Chris-Gossop said in Re-routing when going off the route:

I have been messing around with zumo XT for quite some time it can be a pain in the arse with navigating.
without getting too complicated, when you plan a route you will probably add shaping points so your route goes on roads you want to ride on.
when you send this route to your XT, it will decide on the best way between each shaping point, if there happens to be a quicker route between two points then the XT will take you that way.since discovering MRA I always save my routes as 1.2gpx file, and when I send this to my XT it sends a track and a trip, however the trip does not have any waypoints although it will match your planned route perfectly,

when I import from MRA the route and track get imported, but sometimes the route gets changed slightly by XT because it believes it knows a quicker/faster way between shaping/via points and its not always noticeable unless you always show the track and you can then compare and make adjustments as necesasary
two examples below
I planned a route on MRA and imported it, you can see in the top photo that XT had changed it. The black line is the track which never gets changed on import.first time I imported
I then edited by adding more via points then imported again and it matched the original
you can then see it matches my original route perfectly as it lies on top of the track.
