Import from Google Maps Link?
-
Even though I have been using MyRouteApp for some time I have not worked out how to import routes from Google Maps provided as a link rather than in GPX format. Is there a way of doing this? The following link is provided as an example:

Hello David, see this post: https://forum.myrouteapp.com/topic/2766/importing-pois-from-google-maps-overlay/9?_=1668320301406

@Hans-van-de-Ven-MRA-Master that's not what he's talking about. He wants to import routes (not POIs) from Google Maps using a link. I'm pretty sure that's not possible at the moment.

Hi @David-Skinner.
This doesn’t answer your question, but the route that you have shared only contains a few waypoints, it wouldn’t be difficult to reproduce this directly in MyRoute-app. -
aha, ok, I'll just put on my glasses from now on...

NZDon't believe MRA will do this. I know Scenic has this ability - can import directly from Google Maps and My Maps links.
Haven't seen any other solution/app that does.
But, if you are Android only, then Scenic isn't a solution for you at the moment (iOS only). The Android release of Scenic isn't supposed to hit until early next year (according to the developer).

@Nick-Carthew It is Nick, but this is just an example and sometimes the routes are much more complex.

hai,
Just out of curiosity: why would you import routes from google maps and not make these directly in the MRA Routeplanner?
-
@Drabslab
Or; why would you make a route yourself in MRA if you got a nice one via a Google link? -

I thought that what was meant was to prepare a route in google maps and then download this to MRA

Or... Maybe you might want to use Google Maps and/or My Maps as a free route planner (or maybe something to augment another planner). It's already been mentioned - somebody could share a Google Maps/My Maps link. If so, would be nice to be able to easly import it.
Considering free/alternative route planners... To be honest, I might consider My Maps as a #2 goto - behind Furkot. Scenic's feature to import from Google Maps/My Maps links actually works fairly well.

There is a free tool to quickly convert google maps ling to GPX, whoch could be imported to MRA, maybe it is a solution:

@Stanisław
That would be nice. But unfortunately it only works if you have an API Key. -
@Jack-van-Tilburg I didn't try it recently, pity
The same is in case ot Tire application, added to Tomtom.
There is a possibility tu use own api key free for limited use but I didn't want to try it. -
@Stanisław
I think those actions will be too complicated for the average user. -
@Jack-van-Tilburg For sure... I have moved to MRA with planning and I like it very much, but sometimes someone is sending me simply link to google maps and I have the same problem to open it it MRA.
-
@Stanisław
I have no idea how great the need for this feature is among MRA users.
I'm sure there will be an inventory for Roadmap3 in due course and then users can ask for it. -
@Jack-van-Tilburg, @Tim-Thompson and @David-Skinner, I could suggest to ask in a google forum to implement GPX export, but... yeah.... I think we all would do good to teach people who share Google Maps routes that there are better methods for it

MyRoute-app taught me that there are MANY flavors of gpx files.
