I have been struggling / disappointed by how android auto AA and Navigation. On a previous version of the app a few weeks ago, I struggled to get what was showing on phone screen (Pixel8) in terms of current position onto AA device. I thought I would try again with new version 4.1.2.
Everything worked great when I started a route on phone and the connected to AA. I then went out of bluetooth range from the AA device and from here on I could not get the AA device to show the GPS position. I tried riding a few miles through first way point and still no joy.
I tried restart of AA device, no joy, tried closing app on phone and restarting AA device - still no joy.
Did not trust that maybe this was a general AA issue, started google maps on phone and instant all ok on AA.
I lost track of trying different things - I "think" the way I got it working - (I would need to try and replicate) - is on AA go into settings for MRA Nav and just change a setting - I changed from day to night mode and back to day. Suddenly I think this made the updates on location comes across.
Not sure if I should include in here or log this as seperate ticket that is related?
I was delighted to see the skip waypoint option appear on my AA when I first connected and did not have the above problem. However - once I had the above issue - the skip waypoint button disappeared. (I stopped and took my phone out to check my route was running and see if I had the skip waypoint option on the phone - which I did).
Finally to add - as I think also related - after the above issues you also seem to get problems where the onscreen what the next turn is wrong - although the audio telling you how to turn is correct (i.e. the audio coming from the phone app direct is correct, but what is shown on the AA screen is wrong).
Sorry for such a long post. Let me know if you have questions / need more details - keep up the good work - looking forward to the Nav app on AA getting things like this sorted as when running I do really like it.
