Multiple issues encountered during MRA navigation
-
Have been using the MRA planning app on the web to plan my upcoming trip to Spain and France. All going good with the planning side.
So I wanted to see how this route would be navigated using MRA navigation app. So I created a small route to work and back with viapoints, waypoints, places to stop, etc.. to mimic what I did for the plan.
Tried it out today, and was faced with multiple issues.
iOS: 17.4.1
MRA: 4.1.2 - 305-
Voice Prompts
During navigation, sometimes voice prompts were spoken telling me to stay left, stay right, 3rd exit from roundabout etc.., however many times there was actual change of direction, a actual turn left / right (at a giveaway or change of road) not just curve in the road and there was no spoken prompt - this is bad as a turn could be easily missed, especially if the phone is in the pocket and you're solely relying on voice prompts. -
So I'm riding along, and I have 10miles to go to destination, but realised I'm running out of petrol. I see on the app that a petrol station is 0.8miles away - awesome, I click on the icon and app prompts if I ant to add to my route - I say yes. I was expecting it to interject the petrol stop into the current route as a waypoint, but what it did was add the waypoint at the end, after the destination, so now instead of being 0.8miles aways, it expected me to ride for 10miles to my destination, then ride back 10.x miles to the petrol station - I don't see the point of this, surely it should've updated my route and inserted the petrol stop at the most convenient intersection.
-
map disappeared (see screenshot) don't know why or how, one minute it was there and the next it disappeared. And with no voice navigation (point 1), navigation via MRA was completely useless.
-
When the app reads out upcoming waypoints, it does so while the waypoint is so far out - today I was 1.2miles away from the waypoint when it read out the waypoint, and only did that once - is there a way to change the distance at which it read or ability to repeat the instruction closer to the waypoint?
I would consider these major issues in relying on MRA for routing.
Thoughts, advice, recommendations welcomed

Hi Rajp!
There might be an issue with routing in MRA abut turning and staying left or right, but sometimes it is related to the map material: I have made some comparisons with ISM and HERE for example and different navigation systems and software: Some gives you the instruction to turn left, but the there is no turn: It is just a curve left and no junction at all. Others recognise the curve as a curve.
As I said before: I am not sure if there is a bug to not, but I know these situations.Greetings

@Rajp
My experience over years regard routing instrctions.In the early years of navigation at about 2003-2004 every curve was a route change and you got the advice to turn left or right. Extrem was this at my first job car Navigation Ford VCR
This misinterpretation went of over the years.
Then from 2008 about to 2012 I used privat Navigons PNA, the best ones ever. Only on one Update level they had a big mistake in route calculations, send you from for sample Cologne to Frankfurt via Vienna over hundreds of kilometer. Then with the end of Navigons in 2012 I went to 2014 to Garmin.
Problem here. Again in curves you got advice to turn left or right. But this depends to a junktion in the peak of the curve by any path, a farmers path even wirh a fence, a path to a privat ground, what ever looks like a small road or street visible in the map is an attribute to advice you to turn.
On the other hand and this on MRA too. If you follow a main street, the route direction to next WP and there is a junktion in a smale angle liky a Y you will not get an advice even when it will help to take the right descion not having all the time the eyes on the map. Which I really understand on a bike.
This is a Problem of Here and attributions. Not MRA and other devices. Thea have the same issue. -
@Rajp are you running the latest version 305?
-
@RetiredWingMan yes, 4.1.2 - 305

@Rajp Thanks for your message.
1: Known issue within HERE (out of our power) - hope it's solved soon
2: Most of the times it will be added correctly, sometimes however it fails and goes to the end. I'll check the algorithm responsible for placing the waypoint.
3: Working on that! Internally seeing improved behavior in 4.1.3 Aiming for release end next week.
4: That cannot be changed. Only if it should announce none / via / all.Cheers!
