Toolkit expand option - do I need to do it.
-
If I create a route on the MRA website using the HERE map, for example this one,
https://www.myrouteapp.com/route/open/8973712
Do I need to (or should I) expand it with waypoints via the toolkit considering I am navigating this route using the MRA app on iphone (which uses the same map?)
My reasoning is that as it uses the same here map, the route should be the same, no?If I do need to add them, taking the above for example, how many would you add and any other tips, many thanks.
easily the best planning website for nav imho

@Grahame-Lancaster There's no need normally. From my somewhat limited experience, the main reasons to add waypoints are:
- to minimise any dynamic* re-routing - which can happen due to traffic or closed roads.
- To keep HERE and TomTom routes matching, if you;re sharing routes with TomTom users
However, someone else may be able to give better reasons to add them.

@Grahame-Lancaster Completely agree with @richtea999 . I always place as few waypoints as possible, but enough to precisely follow the roads I've chosen. I notice that on your route, there are so few alternatives to divert that upon recalculation, you won't see anything from your originally planned route . I would place waypoints 4 and 5 much further from the junction to avoid any issues with your voice instructions precisely at those points. It tends to happen if you place waypoints too close to intersections.

@Rob-Verhoeff Thanks Rob & @richtea999
I understand apart from what might be the issues with waypoints close to the junctions, might you loose the verbal instructions to turn or something else?
just trying to understand the whole thing in more depth,! -

Exactly this.

Yes, reason for this is that waypoint announcements take precedence over navigational directions. However there seems to be a bug in the HERE platform where that happens also when no waypoint name or note gets announced.

just trying to understand the whole thing in more depth,!The point, more simply, is that you should place waypoints AFTER any junctions, so that waypoint text/announcments don't accidentally override the more important directions information!
(And an obscure tip - but hey, why not - if you ever use the Gold option of reversing a route, you'll have to go in and correct all those carefully positioned waypoints again, because they'll all be just before each junction! Grr.)

thanks chaps, all clear now@richtea999 no - all tips, however obscure welcome,

The overriding happens also when a waypoint is too close AFTER a junction, I am afraid...
