every time i use the roundtour feature the algorithm creates unnecessery deadends and very odd loops in the tour. i have attached three screenshots - all of them are 100% generated and (beside the startpoint) had no input from me. it would be really nice if this could be adressed in a future update, thanks

I agree with what you say regarding the MRA Roundtours, but in my experience it only takes a few minutes to identify these minor issues and remove them.
I always use the Windiest and Curviest options and generally there are only one or two instances that need to be resolved per Roundtour.

I'd imagine that the complexities of the Algorthm is causing the issues and we may just have to put up with amending these minor issues when they arise.

i dont belive this is the propper way to deal with a bug in a feature of a closed-source, for-profit software.

i can also make a whole roundtour myself with a few clicks in a few minutes - but it defeates the whole purpose of the feature. i belive the idea is to click on the generate button and be on your way.
not click on it, check for errors in the calculation, fix errors by hand, hope you didnt miss anything, be on your way.

@mdj Whilst I agree that the route generator is not optimal, I do feel the need to point out that the route generator is accessible for free basic accounts and therefore not part of the (your words) “for-profit sowtware”.

          @Nick-Carthew

is this really a necessary and productive distinction to make? im paying money for a software and expect it to work as good as possible, if the feature is in the basic tier or the premium tier doesnt matter to me, as a customer, at all.

Hmm, on the other hand it's not a great advert for the paid option!

They all seem to be urban area problems. Maybe there's an algorthim tweak that could (for urban areas only) select only major roads.

I never use the roundtour feature (or windy roads) .

Or I want to go some place: A-B navigation
Or I am planning a holiday/longer trip and then I plan the route myself.

Reading that it doesn't function too well confirms my approach. 🙂

It is not difficult, it is easy, it's a hobby

@Drabslab Agreed. I wanted to like the feature, but the few test routes I've created don't take in the best roads.

I think to be successful, the algorithm needs to know which roads are 'good' rather than just curvy, and that's not easy data to get hold of. Like a Michelin green roads stitcher-together, so to speak - but they're few and far between.

Maybe MRA needs to consider crowd-sourcing the 'best roads' from the community to enhance the round-trip generator. (And sell it back to HERE, in exchange for a low battery usage fix!)

                  “I’d rather do it myself.”
I prefer to make the routes myself because then I know the route and know that it is good.
But I definitely use the "roundtour generator" in Routelab. Especially on the road during trips and holidays..
The routes are not always perfect but so far I haven't had any insurmountable problems along the way. I drive routes with the support of my navigator. That might be a slightly different mindset 🙂

That's basically what OnRoute did with their Motorcycle Map for Garmin. Indexing roads on basis of how often they are used in routes. MRA has the perfect database for that 😉

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebar to the saddle.

@richtea999 I think the problem here is, that good and good an be totally different from driver to driver. Some really (for me) nice small roads, i would drive, can be a problem for somebody else riding for example a super psorts bike or something not so comfortable.
I think the vcrvy thing is the best basic and easy approach. I use it primarily for me "scouting" trips, on which I just want to explore a region I haven't been before and need some ideas where to go. On longer tripps I always plan it all for myself and don't use the Scenic Round feature.
As I am also a Gamrin XT2 user, I think the "database" of nice routes is a good idea, as long as you clearly define waht are the criterias for a nice route and chekc if the reported routes are in line with this definition. Garmin uses an overlay idea with scenic routes.

Really hard to be perfect if not impossible.
