Units for the Navigation app

You really need to add a way more convenient to switch the navigation from Miles to Km without having to go in the "Account preference".
Being in Canada and going often in the USA, we have to switch that unit quite a few times. If we don't have any cell phone connection, we can't change it at all.
That configuration should be part of the app and easily switched and not related in any way to our account preferences.
In the old MyRoute-Nav, that was part of the app.

@Martin-Garand Thanks for sharing!
We indeed want to have all those settings available in the app itself. -
@Corjan-Meijerink So, any info about it from developpers team ?
-
You were talking to the Lead Developer and he has indicated the intent to put this in the App.
Maybe there are other higher priorities at the moment.
Be patient, there are only 2 Developers at MRA. -

What would be better is if it Auto switches depending on where you are like tomtom.
-
@Michael-Rhys I personally do not want it to change, I live in the UK and ride a lot in Europe but I like to keep it in MPH and I think the app converts to the correct speed limit on the road
-
@Michael-Rhys, I prefer distance being shown in units I am familiar with, and not in units that are locally known but I cannot relate to.
-
Default: auto-switch to match the country/region
Override: a setting to force it to your preferred valueThen the majority of users will be happy.
And the override setting is for people who can't swiftly calculate 5/8ths of something, me included.
-
@Con-Hennekens In tomtom, there is a switch in settings automatically switch to local units. So you can disable it if you don't like it. It would be easy for MRA to do the same.
-
@Michael-Rhys, I really doubt that switching to local units should be the default for two reasons. First, I think most people prefer their own units above local units. Second, the action to change a setting should be with those who want to change something.
But whatever. Chances for me to travel to the UK are slim ever since Brexit (luckily I was in London just before that), and travelling to other countries with non-metric units I can't afford
-
@Con-Hennekens I am the other way. The moment I get on the ferry, I change the bikes units to the local units. I look at the bikes display to see what speed I am doing and I can compare that to the road signs to see whether I am speeding or not. It then gets confusing if your bike is showing kph and the distance to next turning and the speed on the sat nav show different units. So have a switch that allows local changing, whether default is on or off is irrelevant, allow users to have it automatically switch if desired. It could simply be Switch units automatically (on) no further action. Off, allow a box to select the units.

We still accept foreigners in the UK, even you @Con-Hennekens

I change my settings from miles to kilometres when Iβm in Europe. But I would enjoy an easier way to change rather than going to my account page.

Our ambitions regarding this issue have not changed

Haha! I feel Honored
Point is we need to buy a passport since brexit, and our European ID Card is not enough anymore. That's a lot of extra cost if you want to take your family to the UK. -

You just described why our yearly 3-day visit to IPMS Telford hasn't happened the last few years. We simply can't get a group together anymore
But it may be better to try keeping politics (and its consequences) away from this forum.

@Drabslab I would just like to say that most, if not all brits on this site would have voted to stay in the European union and I genuinely have not found riding to Europe much different today. since Brexit I have travelled to Spain, France and the Netherlands as entry ports with no issues, COVID was the biggest issue to travel but it was still possible with the right paperwork and if you want to go somewhere there is nothing stopping you.

Many moons ago my Aunt informed me that I was eligible for an Irish Passport.
Maybe its time to look into that.
Thanks for the reminder @Vince-Hyde. -

Thanks for the reminder @Vince-Hyde.Youβll need proof of kissing the Blarney Stone, drinking 5 pints of the black stuff without falling over and be adept at playing a musical instrument or dancing before you apply
