Since the MyRoute-app upgrade and HERE map upgrade has anyone had a chance to do a decent trip to assess the battery drain on their phone whilst navigating a route? About 6 months ago I found whilst using my Samsung android phone it got pretty hot. Shortly after that, the battery expanded and failed. Not sure if it was due to prolonged use of the app or not? Anyway, the power consumption was visibly significant compared to Google maps for example.

Not really the time of year for long rides but anyone out there formed any early impressions on the performance of the new app?

The v5 update barely influenced battery life πŸŽ‰

Since the 4.4.0 update, late June, we have a very decent battery usage!
Still more than Google Maps, which is not weird, but we haven't received many complaints after that version.

Battery condition of the device itself is obviously also quite important. I recently renewed by iPhone battery from ~75% health and I am now extremely happy with the battery life while navigating without charging.

Since the 4.4.0 update all devices should definitely be able to charge normally with simple chargers while using the app πŸ˜‰

I have never had any problems with an iPhone Xr on the BMW Cradel and the inductive charge. If possible, you should start with an almost full battery. I know in the past the battery always stayed at its start % power.

For really longer breaks, it is recommended to stop the app and restart it later because it does not load during a break.

@Corjan-Meijerink Battery life has been great for me on both iOS and Android with V5. With iOS, I run the MRA app with multiple apps running In the background (including RadarBot) as well as CarPlay (wireless and wired); the battery slowly charges if need be or remains at full charge. Batteries on my devices are in good health. Top job.

Kind Regards. Help where I can.

Newer Android Phone can have an option for leaving the battery on 80% under use. This also means that the power from the powersupply only is used by phone. The battery will disconnected so to speak.

            https://allthings.how/how-to-limit-your-androids-charging-to-80/

I use this option for a while now and i'm very pleased with the results. My phone is mounted on the bike in open air. The phone stays cool even in the hottest moments of the year. On colder moments (spring/fall), the phone is just cold in my hands.

I have started using MRA as the navigate app with a Carpuride system, I used the map / route planning before. I have noticed that it uses a lot of battery when doing the Navigation. What settings in MRA can help with extending the battery life when using the app to navigate. Other than that the Navigate is very good.

Nothing. Navigation (all apps) drains the battery

Presumably your phone screen is off and you are using Bluetooth connection to send data to the Carpuride device. I would suggest you navigate offline so your phone is doing less work.
In case you don't know where the setting is: click on the 3 dots lower right, then Settings icon, then Functional, then slide the button at the top of the page to Offline Navigation.
