Automatic download of offline maps
-
Just a suggestion if it could be made possible.
Could the app be configured to check all your currently installed offline maps and notify you of an update upon starting the app?
I ride with a few people that always fail to update maps and in some cases don't even know how to do it!
It would be good if you are notified of an update automatically and able to update the installed offline maps once notified.

This could be done easily but honestly updating once or twice per year is fine. Informing users about updates will result in more issues than satisfaction

If you get an update notification while on vacation on poor wifi you will click it. If the update never completes you are off worse.

@stuart-marritt I fully agree with Corjan, it is easy to become fixated with having the latest map, when in reality most updates will not have any effect on your route.

If a roundabout suddenly appears where you were expecting an intersection, things get a bit tricky...

@stuart-marritt Same here Stuart,
I know your point very well, but as any map update is not only an file that have to be downloaded and is available from several sources with high transfer rates, an update might cause you sometimes sevral hous till it will be finished.
I am sure you don't want to be in exactly this situation while you are on a trip.I am rpetty careful about map updates and plan them up front to be sure that they don't impact my tours or plans.

Thanks all for the replies
I do get where you are coming from with updates if you're on a tour etc.
I just think it should be easier for some users to know updates are available.
As I say so e of the people I ride with are a bit technology challenged!

This can happen at any time! It’s not just down to updating the offline maps, but also to whether or not the map has already been updated.
On a separate note, before you set off on a longer trip, always make sure to update the maps yourself! As I say so e of the people I ride with are a bit technology challenged!
Well, you just need to offer them some support! It’s quite simple, as you know. Just get together a few days before the trip and sort this out together! That way, you can go over the trip straight away!

HERE updates map versions every week, and a higher version is by no means an indication that updates have been done on the map tiles relevant for you. That being said, the handling of map updates is very much improved in V6. But an indicator at start of app is not one of the improvements
