Offline Navigation

Does the navigation app default to offline maps(if installed)automatically if you find yourself out of a cell?
I have my regional area offline maps installed but was unsure whether I had to change manually or is there an auto setting which takes over.

@Lex-K-Franks-0 The app will switch automatically if you have your routes synced too. To sync (download) your routes, open the app and tap Routes and tracklogs, now tap the 3 dots top right and select Sync all my routes.

The app defaults to offline maps ALWAYS when they are available on your device, whether you have signal or not

I don't understand the relevance of synced routes against the use of offline maps?
And maybe this topic should be moved to some self help category.
