@Donovan-Smith the navigation app on your mobile uses the Here routing algorithm
the Here algorithm is the one used for navigation by MRA

on the Web planner when you are planning you can choose which routing algorithm you wish to use either OSM, TomTom or Here

      7be96ad9-be99-45cc-99ac-aaa24d9e5de5-image.png

You should choose the algorithm that matches your navigation device
So if your using MRA or a Garmin to navigate it is best to use the Here routing algorithm
If your using a TomTom obviously best to use the TomTom algorithm
If your using Osmand then best to use the OSM algorithm
The TomTom & Here routing algorithms are not available with a basic web account, you need either a Gold or Navigation subscription to access them

The map layers are just graphic overlays they just show you where the roads are, they are not responsible for calculating the routing

@Brian-McG ok. I just looked on the mra route planner. I don’t have access to choose here maps as I am not a gold subscriber. I am only paying for the next nav app. So by default following your post I am guessing I am on osm maps then when I go to my nav app it’s here maps, so that’ll be the issue! If I plan a route using destination input, is that also using osm maps to plan? Vis a vis is there a way around (simple and easy ) or is this a way they force a revenue stream?

An MRA Navigation Next subscription gives you access to the HERE planning map in the website route planner.

@Donovan-Smith if you look at the first image in my previous post you can see it says "Here (MyRouteapp/Garmin) Gold / Nav"
the "Nav" at then end is to indicate, as @Nick-Carthew says that the Here routing is available with the navigation subscription
You need to be logged in to the web planner with the same account that you use for the Navigation app

Ok. Found the here maps setting. Thank you. Next question, if I create a a to b route on the web in the here maps. Does it always open in here maps afterwards when I choose to edit it?

All routes will remember the last planning map that was used for that route.

If you click Always use this map for new routes, the HERE planning map will always be chosen for new routes.

Thank you @Nick-Carthew. So I guess then I can open and edit it in the mra app and it will do as expected. I have created a simple route here just a to be to avoid tolls. Can someone confirm it’s good please?

@Donovan-Smith You'll need to share the route before anyone can check it.
                    To share:
Firstly, the privacy of the route must be set to Public.
Open the route and then open the Route-information tab in the left menu column, here you'll see a Privacy drop down box where you can change the privacy to Public.
Now click the Share button in the top right of the map screen, if you do not see a Share button, click Page menu first, then you’ll see Share button.
After clicking Share, you have different options for sharing, choose the Link option and then copy and paste the URL web address into your reply please.

@Donovan-Smith that is a long A-B route, just shy of 600 miles
it seems to be doing the right thing in avoiding the tolls

I put similar start - end points in google maps & selected avoid tolls & the 2 systems seem to track pretty well
a few small differences, the main one being how to route round the tool on the A63 at the Aire Port des Landes, only about 35 miles into the trip

If you select the TomTom & Openstreetmap route algorithms you will see they also take slightly different paths but in general they are all doing similar things

Remember to return the route algorithm setting to Here before you navigate
