Some ferries will be taken some not. I have this issue here at the Rhine as well, I have no idea why Here is making this.
Just set a way point on both sides of the river and go to the way point menu of the WP on the other side and use the off road function

the problem is that HERE works with a sailing schedule to determine how long the crossing will take. Since most domestic ferries do not have a sailing schedule, but simply sail up and down, HERE decides on a default crossing duration of 30 minutes. In "fastest route" mode, this means that a detour that is faster is automatically chosen. If the detour takes more than 30 minutes, the ferry will be chosen. Hence the sometimes "erratic" behavior. With "Shortest route" selected, the detour doesn't matter, the ferry is always shorter, and so it takes it.

Switching to shortest route can obviously have a big impact on the rest of your route, so it really only makes sense if you use that setting from the start when planning. Navigation Next will include it automatically, but TomTom, Zumos and other units you will have to manually adjust it yourself.

Of course you can also force the crossing by setting the waypoint on the other side as "skip" or "off-road" using the 4x4 car icon in the waypoint options. The funny thing is that the planner then does not calculate any time for the crossing, but Navigation Next does: half an hour 😉

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!

That's interesting; I hadn't discovered that until now. Helpful info, thanks! 👍
