I had almost given up on the app in the middle of last year, honestly, after a couple of problems with unexpected navigation behavior and problems with Android Auto. And I am very happy that I tried again after your "Christmas-update" (this is what made me buy Navigation and Gold Lifetime).

Besides other small things that will surely get ironed out over time, the two features I do miss the most are: 1) Current speed and speed limit display while not navigating (i.e. a "just drive"-mode), and 2) seeing speed limit changes on the track line.

As far as I know, 1) is a planned feature already - and I am very eager to see this; that would make it my default riding companion... And regarding 2), the inspiration here is, how Sygic does it: It shows all speed limit changes as little "speed limit signs" on the track line at the very position where the speed limit begins: This way, one knows beforehand if it is worth it to accelerate before a curve, overtake slow vehicles etc. It could essentially be displayed like a via point: A sign that is pinned to a certain point on the track line.

VOGE DS 900 X: AA with Carpuride W702 (via Samsung S22 Ultra)
Royal Alloy TG 300 S: Mounted Samsung S22 Ultra
Skoda Citigo: AA with Carpuride W903 (via Samsung S22 Ultra)

@Corjan-Meijerink Do you consider this a possible improvement in the future?

@peha We know that your first request has been requested many times before and will one day be added to the app.
I quite like your second request too, although I'm not sure how difficult it would be to implement. I can see the advantage of having changes in speed visible on the app but I am quite sure that road signs do the same thing. You have advance warning of a speed change with a road sign.

Always willing to help if I can.

@peha suggestion one will definitely be implemented in the nearby future. Not in the next update however.

          Suggestion two is interesting.
However, speed limits often do not change in sharp corners. Suggested speed limits might but that does not always is a known factor in the road data.

Warning about sharp turns is an interesting topic by itself. However, it the road is curvy / dangerous, I just look out for the road sings on the actual road 😉 Not being arrogant but just honest. I would prefer the app to remain silent and the rider to focus rather than warn for every upcoming obvious turn.

If that feature comes, please make it less annoying than e.g. Garmin does / did with their devices. I once had a Zumo and it was driving me mad with announcing "sharp turns" multiple times and then the turn was like not worth mentioning even if one would be seriously speeding.^^

I might have phrased that badly; I neither thought of warnings for sharp corners, nor do I want to suggest a digital surrogate for the actual speed limit signs 😁

I would prefer the app to remain silent and the rider to focus rather than warn for every upcoming obvious turn.

I 100% agree! I, too, don't want to be flooded with warnings or hints. Plus, I don't consider sharp corner warnings useful, personally, because I have to be cautious anyway: Is the road wet? Are there little stones or dirt patches? etc.

What I did mean, though, is a "upcoming speed change" hint as a respective speed limit symbol before you can see it in reality. Why is this useful?

              • Example 1: German Autobahn, unrestricted, only two lanes. You're in the slower one on the right, going 130 km/h and reach a point where the vehicle in front is you drives only 100 km/h; on the left lane, people pass with 180+ km/h. So, is it worth to look for a slot to safely switch to the left lane and overtake? No, because in 800 meters there's going to be a new limit of 120 km/h, so overtaking now would just be an unnecessary risk and waste some fuel for accelerating and directly slowing down again.
              • Example 2: Driving on a curvy country road, going 80, but 100 is allowed. A curve comes up and looks fun; but you know what, 75 meters after that curve a village begins (which I can't see, but thankfully the app shows this on the track as a little "50"-speed limit sign, so I let the bike "roll out" (slow down on is own) rather than accelerating.

So, overall, for me this would rather be a fuel saving and "knowing what to expect when I can't see yet" function. I don't think the app should warn me or anything, just zoom out a little and show the sign where the speed change will occur (the data is already there, anyway, it just needs to be visualized).

(By the way, is there a possibility to set a preferred maximum speed that gets taken into account when I drive somewhere by bike or car? With my motorcycle, I typically don't go much faster than 130 except for overtaking maybe, while with my car, I'd rather go 140 - 160, depending on the traffic situation. Had I a more luxurious car, maybe it's would be more like 160 - 200 or so. I never know what to make of calculated travel time for longer routes, because I don't know what underlaying presumptions are being considered by the app.)

@Corjan-Meijerink It's been 3 months; would you be willing to give an estimate when we might see this in its most basic form (i.e. always show the speed indicator, no matter if navigating or not)? 😊 I'm eagerly looking forward to this one (and I know others do, too, judging by similar threads). 😻

@peha lots of other apps do this and many such as Waze do a better job because they have much more up to date information.

@Corjan-Meijerink Thamks for your reply. Well, while I'm looking forward to the amazing stuff 😄, I'm still a little disappointed that there still doesn't seem to be at least an estimate, when this "later release" might be - so, it is in fact not a planned (i.e. with a specific release date or version) feature and not worked on, yet?

I'm glad that someone else finds this feature important.
Even when simply driving, it's nice to have the speed limits displayed. Especially as it has become a real routine when driving. And then it's distracting if you can't find the information when looking quickly.
                              OK, that's the problem.
But maybe there is a solution, or rather a workaround:
Your look-only route starts at A
Create a short route with the TomTom route planner.
A is the start, B is the opposite of your look-only route.
If you then start the navigation, track navigation is automatically activated.
And if you move away from the track after point A, no route instructions are given to bring you back to the track.
So you have peace of mind AND the navigation screen with speed.
Perhaps something needs to be adjusted in the settings.
When you create the AB route on your smartphone, it is automatically created with Here®. You then have to activate track navigation in the settings.

That will get us through the time Corjan needs to rebuild the super duper app. And if it's even better than the current one, then I'm really looking forward to it.
