I'm in the US and only speak English. I wish I was Muli-lingual, but it didn't happen and there isn't much I can to about it now.

Many of the posts in the forum are written in German or Dutch. Some of those address topics of interest to me. Is there some language translator available so that I can understand everything being discussed?

@John-S-Parry I concur with that!! Especially if the post starts out in English, then some where along the way, another language is used, (not calling out any other language, by the way - cudos to individuals that speak multiple languages!) even if it is in broken english.

If the particular post is of interest to me, I find myself using a translator in google...then I have to guess between Dutch and German...sometimes I guess wrong and it makes no sense, lol.

hope this post doesn't spur backlash or heaven forid, some sort of 'privelage'. 😊

@John-S-Parry use Google Translate or ChatGPT.

I use the Google Chrome Web browser and simply turn on Google translate from detected language to English. Works quite well.

It has been discussed before, the language used to start a topic should be used for replies, but that doesn't always work. Using the Chrome browser I can highlight text and right click the mouse to have the option to translate. A pop-up box appears with the translation and an option to translate the entire page.

Hi, I agree to the request if the post starts in English it should be all in English.
I hate if it changes suddenly.
I am happy to speak at least English as a German. I understand a bit Dutch, it is not so much foreign.

                  If I need help, I use https://www.deepl.com/

It translates everything much better than Google, and it detects the most language correct.

You can also install the Google translator as a Chrome extension and switch on the translation function - this will automatically translate all the posts you read.

                    Very convenient!

And I'm almost in the middle of both haha. I live in Haaksbergen, near Altstätte/Gronau/Münster. So Deutsch is perfectly fine for me, as long as the sentences are not extremely long and "," intensive haha.

2.5h to the northwest coast of NL and about 2.5h to Winterberg. 😎Been there, done that haha.

@Jörgen Dutch seems to be about half way between German and English......makes sense from a geographical perspective 😄

Great how people actively contribute in sharing tools to help.

Just a statement from me to clarify on the languages. We have language specific sections for all languages. MRA will announce updates / official messages in English. All languages are however allowed in the common sections and those will mainly be Dutch & English given our user base with some active native Germans.

Personally I read / speak German fluently but simply respond in English as they read that and easier for me to type 😉

In respect of the topic creator, at least the language used by the topic creator should be used for a reply. I find a change of language within the topic inappropriate.

I speak German reasonably well because I live only a few km from the border, and Roermond is a well know watersports area for German boat owners. Since I also live only a few km from the Belgian border, I speak that language very well too... 🤣

It's just that in writing my English is a lot quicker than my German, so sometimes, if I need to be elaborate, I switch to English in a German topic. I think that is still better than no reply at all 😉

I turn on Google translate when reviewing forum posts so I'm not always aware what language the original or subsequent posts are in. I only know English (and have enough trouble with that thank you) so if my replies in English annoy anyone, I apologise. Cheers!
