Has the Motorbike problem been fixed in 4.0.3???
-
Hi,
I noticed that there was an update of the app to version 4.0.3 now and in the description of the update on your web site nothing is mentioned about fixing the problem for Motor bike users that it was not possilbe to have your phone in your pocket (if you only want to have voice guidance) because the navigation stopped immediately when the phone screen is not active.
I just wanted to ask if this problem has been fixed now with this update?
It would be nice if I would finally be able to use MRA for motor bike tours as I had planned but so far this was not possible. -
@Thomas-Scharrer, I am not aware of this problem. Are you using Android or IOS? In Android you can configure the app to allow for running in the background. It is in the Android settings under Apps - App Battery usage - Start settings (or similar). I never tried that* but does that solve your problem?
*) I really advice against navigating that way. Especially in mountainesque scenery there are so often Y-crossings from which it is completely uncertain which one is going straight and which one is considered a turn. I'd rather do without voice than without view. In fact, I often do. The recognition of the routeline against the real world situation is what makes navigation unambiguous, and therefore safest and without hesitation.

@Con-Hennekens I am using an iPhone, meaning IOS.
Strange that you are not aware of this problem because I also made a support ticket regarding this (#43235) and I was promised that this should be fixed.I dont have my phone mounted on my motor bike and I am not planning to just because the MRA app is not working.
Please note that this works perfectly fine with other navigations such as google maps navigation (which I have to use because MRA is not working). With google maps you can start a navigation and when you put your phone into your pocket the navigation will continue however with the MRA the navigation stops immediately when the phone screen is not active anymore so unfortunately its useless for me for navigation.
I love the route planner and I am using it a lot but its a hell to get a route from MRA route planner imported into google maps so I REALLY hope that this will be fixed.
In general I dont see any reason why navigation should stop when the phone screen get inactive so this is simply a bug in my opinion. -

I completely disagree with this statement as I have successfully navigated for thousands of miles with the app, as have countless other happy users.
I can't supply you with an answer for your problem just yet, but if I open a route for navigating, start navigation and then turn my screen off, when I turn my screen back on navigation is still open. I will test this later today.

Hi @Thomas-Scharrer It was not said that it would be solved with the upcoming update, but it is not yet known when this will be solved.
The main programmer will start the next line of bug fixes after his vacation. So I hope they can fix these issues soon!Hopefully you understand that the programmers are also entitled to a holiday, because they really need that to clear their heads.
-
@Nick-Carthew thanks for the answer.
are you using an iPhone or Android because as @Con-Hennekens mentioned above, it seems to be possilbe to solve it on Android with the settings.
It would be really interesting to hear about your test. Just be be more clear, the navigation is not totally cancelled when the phone is inactive but there is no voice guidance coming anymore when the phone is inactive. I have tried this many times because I also thought there must be a way to make this work but as soon as I have the phone active again the voice commands work so if I would ride with holding the phone in my had (which is obviously not possible) then it would work.

@Hans-van-de-Ven-MRA-Master thanks a lot for the update, of course anyone needs holiday at some point.
I hope this will be prioritized later. Actually I asked in this thread if it has been fixed because the following was mentioned in the 4.0.3 Testflight update: "Motorhome & motorcycle support"
So I assumed that maybe "motorcycle support" meant that this has been fixed
-
@Thomas-Scharrer ah check. No, I meant that we now support the motorcycle transport mode

about fixing the problem for Motor bike users
You talk about fixing a problem for Motorbike users, I do not see a problem.
You are using the App differently than most of the motorbike user, in a mode that is not implemented fully yet.
Only the programmer can answer if this will come in future or not. -

You did good, but I am not a supportdesk employee
with the MRA the navigation stops immediately when the phone screen is not active anymore so unfortunately its useless for me for navigation.
You probably already did this, but did you look into the powersettings of the app like I mentioned above? I will try your method when driving home and report back.
In general I don't see any reason why navigation should stop when the phone screen get inactive so this is simply a bug in my opinion.
In general I agree with you. However I would not call it a bug if it simply is not facilitated. Maybe it just is a not yet implemented feature
-
@Jörgen well, fortunately people are different so you cant force the rest of the world to do things exactly as you do
For some this might not be a problem but for others it is. I have a lifetime license for MRA because I love the route planner and was excited about he navigation so I will not just accept that it is not working and I have to use google maps where this is working without any problem.
-
@Con-Hennekens thnaks for the answer again.
I cant find any app power settings in my app or iPhone, maybe this doesnt exist on iPhone?
-
@Thomas-Scharrer, Ah, now I see you are on IOS. Does IOS offer no energy settings on apps whatsoever?
I will not just accept that it is not working (without screen on)
Well you have to admit that usually motorists want to be able to look at their nav. I think the app was never intended to be used the way you do. Especially knowing that it is ill advised to do so. But that does not rule out that a method will be implemented to leave the voice active with screen off.
I have to use google maps where this is working without any problem.
Well Google Maps does not navigate the routes you make in the MRA planner, does it? I guess that there are plenty other apps that will do better then Maps (for scenic multi-WP routes that is).
-
I just dont like having my phone mounted on my bike and many others also dont like that. I understand that you dont recommend navigation only with voice commands and I can add to this that I am using a Beeline device instead of mounted phone. I am simply importing my routs created in the MRA into the Beeline.
Yes, correct googlemaps cannot navigate the MRA created routs so basically you have to put a created route manually into google maps.

We will work on this in the future! Currently the app indeed does not continue the instructions when the screen is locked.

Yes it does, I have just tested it. 100% all instructions and camera warnings.

I use an iPhone 11 and have just arrived back from my test. I can confirm that all voice instructions and warning bleeps can be heard with the screen off.
Do you have Background app refresh switched on for MyRoute-app?
You’ll find it in Settings > General > Background app refresh.I had my phone mounted on my bike and started my journey. I then switched the screen off, instructions were coming through loud and clear to my Cardo Scala Packtalk Bold. I left the screen off for about 10 miles during which time I received lots of instructions and a camera warning bleep.
After about 10 miles I turned the screen back on which was a pain because I use facial recognition to un-lock my phone. Pulled over, gloves off and I punched in my PIN code to un-lock the screen. MRA was on screen at my location. So I can confirm that the navigation app continues to run and announce turn by turn instructions in the background with the screen off.
Check your Background app refresh -

@Corjan-Meijerink I unlocked this topic to give the OP chance to respond to my test result.
-
@Nick-Carthew, great test! I'll try to repeat it on Android.
-
@Nick-Carthew Hi and thanks a lot for testing however I just checked this and I have backrough app refresh on for the myroureapp.
maybe the problem or difference is that you had your phone mounted and not in your jacket pocket? maybe because it was mounted it was nor completely locked or so?
I am just guessing but it must be possible somehow to explain why it is working for some and not for others?
