Skipping waypoint
-
Good morning,
under skipping waypoints, there are so many posts, but could not find a hint.I was in Frankfurt last weekend, coming from north via Autobahn and had to pickup my documents for attending the Ironman as biker. (see WP20)
But MRA skipped WP20 for some reason and guided me to WP21.
I did not notice directly and then got totally lost in Frankfurt City.I needed to stop navigation, opened route again and used start at WP20.
Autoskip for WP was on.
How can I prevent this in future?
Right here I would not have needed it.
Autoskip off?
Or any other hint for this. -
@Jörgen Make sure point 20 is a viapoint Those are never skipped and are designed specifically for this purpose!
-
Ok, will do next time.
-
@Corjan-Meijerink But what would have been the reason for the app to skip wp20 in the first place? If the detour started in fact from where TS shows it with his red line, I see no justification for the app to skip the wp?
We may need to conclude that some quirks are present in the way the app skips wp's since some other users have reported some unexplainable autoskipping as well.
Making wp20 a via point works, but feels like a "Doekje voor het bloeden".

@StefanHummelink I don't believe the red line indicates where he started to deviate but rather shows the newly calculated route to 21
Hard to tell what happened before that causing the route to be recalculated to 21. Many different factors can cause this to happen and using viapoints is the only solution -
When I plan a route through a large town or city, I place a route point after each deviation from the current road and as @Corjan-Meijerink suggested, use a via point for must visit locations.

Well, since skipping is usually only done after (at least two) recalculations, Stefan's assumption seems very valid.

Yes, it started on the Autobahn by given a new exit, much too early.
The reason is not clear, there was no traffic jam. Maybe the road works short before org. exit.
I will use a Via Point next time. -
@Jörgen could it be that there was a long “baustelle” further op ahead and navigation saw a quicker route to the next waypoint (#21)?

It is difficult to say after some days, to be honest, I have no idea.
Important is to know that these things can happen with auto skip and that there are ways to prevent it by using via points.
That is just the advantage and disadvantage of this function.
