Excuse me if this has been discussed, but I'm a newbie 😊

When I went to download offline maps in the app, There was an option at the top download the HERE map update. At the same time, there is the option to download specific region maps.

How are the two download areas connected, if they are?

@John-Parry-0 offline maps are the Here maps.

@Doug-Robinson So, if I see the message that there is a HERE update, does it download a new set of HERE maps for all regions of the world? And then is the next step to download the specific region I want to use?

@John-Parry-0 I'm not sure where you are getting the notification about new Here maps available. When MRA makes new Here maps available there will be a prompt to download updates in the download maps section. Only the regions you have previously downloaded are updated.

@Doug-Robinson if you look at the right side of page #14 of the manual for the App:

              https://support.myrouteapp.com/support/solutions/articles/12000094564-manual-myroute-app

It shows both the HERE download Update at the top (reference 1, 2), and download options for the different regions below (reference 4). I come from the Garmin world where downloading maps is handled differently, so I'm trying to understand the MRA paradigm.

@John-Parry-0 if you have previously downloaded a map for one or more regions and there is an update to the Here maps you have downloaded, then the yellow update prompt will appear. To download a map for one or more regions, first open the region (such as Canada) and then click on a down arrow beside one of the provinces to download the map for that region (province, state, country etc). Hope this helps.

@Doug-Robinson Thanks Doug. I had not previously downloaded any maps. I'm a new MRA user, and this was my first time experimenting with the map(s) download function.

The HERE download Update above the region downloads confused me because it doesn't make sense to generically first update every HERE map across the world. Or maybe there is something else to it not outlined in the documentation. I live in California, and I only wanted to first start with my local map. I did go ahead and download the California map and went out for a quick ride to test offline navigation out.

Again, maybe I'm making something of nothing. I just want to understand what generic the HERE map download (at the top) actually does.

@John-Parry-0 The generic update button ensures that the app will download the latest possible maps! 🙂

If you have installed maps yourself, they will be redownloaded after completing the generic update.

@Corjan-Meijerink in previous threads I thought you had stated that the maps are "updated with changes" not completely downloaded again. The recent changes to the map downloads are better but i still find the downloads are very slow and subject to errors causing restarts. Also if the screen times out or you switch to another app, the downloads stall and require a restart. Is there a way to allow the downloads to continue in the background? Perhaps a better download manager.

@Doug-Robinson, true, but it has been changed some updates ago because the delta-info that has to come from HERE proved to be very unstable. I am sure when that improves, MRA devs will make use of that function again.
