    Hello,

On the map layer settings screen there are 4 options for zoom setting. Can someone explain these to me? I've tried all 4 settings in the Android app during navigation and they all do the same thing. I end up with a tightly zoomed in screen of my current position which is the least useful amount of information. I'd expect the instruction-based zoom setting to zoom out and show the next turn even if it's miles away instead of the next 50 meters of road. Thanks.

@abowen I am assuming you are refering to these 4 settings

I think the info pop up next to the heading "Zoom Adjustments" is fairly clear
      084f06c8-dc0d-47dc-b374-af9dbd44dc50-image.png

What is probably not so clear is when these functions are going to be in effect
As far as I understand the automatic zoom functions only apply to the "dynamic" mode.
You switch between "dynamic", "heading up" & "north up" by clicking the Compass

The "heading up" & "north up" are both top down views & you adjust the zoom level manually with the +/- buttons
The "dynamic" mode is a tilted/angled view, the level of tilt & zoom are controlled by the 2 settings at the bottom of the first image above

Thanks for the reply. My understanding is that dynamic mode is the default and setting zoom to intersections or instructions should be doing what I want as described in my first post. It never zooms out far enough, I’ll see the turn on the map when I’m within a half mile or so but would prefer much greater distance. It does me no good when I’m on a road for 5 miles before the next turn and it remains zoomed way in.l

I’ve also tried the app in heading up and north up modes. I’ll manually adjust the zoom level and the app continues to zoom in as it pleases.

          Hello,
The zoom buttons only change the current view during navigation; you can also do this by pinching with two fingers.
However, this is quickly reset when the position marker is rewritten.
In the screenshot above, there is <default zoom correction>. For Active 5 tablet, I currently use -0.6, which works quite well. However, you will need to experiment, as it depends on the size of the display and orientation and possibly also on the resolution.
You will only see the next waypoint if it is within the area currently displayed.

@abowen if your in dynamic mode then the view you see will be tilted
you can adjust the range/zoom level you see using the "zoom correction" level
a more negative value will let you see further ahead, a more positive value will let you see less

the "tilt correction" also has a small effect on how far ahead you can see, it is not as big a factor as the "zoom correction"
a more negative tilt will be more like the the top down birdseye view, a more positive tilt will give a longer more elongated view as if from the top of a building rather than an airplane

as @Rainer-Treichel says all of the above only applies when you are actually navigating, if your sitting still looking at the map page, not navigating, then toggling the compass setting just zooms you in

Ok, I got all that. Thanks for the replies.

              • Must be navigating. Check.
              • Dynamic mode. Check.
              • Fine tune zoom with zoom correction. Check.

I still get auto zooming with north up and heading up modes, like it just won't leave my zoom setting alone no matter what I do. And when I want it to autozoom on an intersection or based on my speed in dynamic mode, the app won't zoom out far enough.

                'won't zoom out far enough'
                That depends.
For me, it's not the complete route to the next turn or route point that's important, but the route ahead that can still be easily shown on the display.
I can see the road, the bends and plan my overtaking maneuvers based on this. Check!

Perhaps the display of the entire route will help to fulfill your wishes.

                From documentation:
                12. Compass: By default, the view is set to dynamic, i.e. the screen tilts and zooms in and out automatically. If you click on the compass once, you select the fixed view. This is done from top to bottom and retains the zoom level. This can be set with plus or minus. Press and hold the button and the route will be displayed in full. If you have zoomed in or out, click on the compass to return to the dynamic setting.

@abowen if your in dynamic mode & set "zoom correction" to negative two, then that is as far out as the auto zoom will go
on my phone which is quite a large long screen, that gives me about 15 miles, sunbury-on-thames to bagshot (M3 jct 1 - jct 3) which is way more than I need
15 miles is about 15 minutes ahead & i don't need to plan that far enough in advance
                  62cd3974-7c9a-4f98-86b4-d1f99f73adab-image.png

Like @Rainer-Treichel I normally use a zoom correction setting of -0.6 that shows me about five miles ahead which is more than adequate
"the app won't zoom out far enough" how far are you expecting!?

the compass icon tells you what mode your in,
the red arrow in the picture above shows a triangle symbol within a circle - this is dynamic mode & the triangle is pointing north in this case
your position/location icon wil be to the bottom third of your screen, in my case this is the pink triangle/arrow

in "top down heading up" mode your position/location icon wil be to the bottom third of your screen like this & your position/location icon will always point to the top of your screen
                  c6ac6ff6-faad-4371-a465-73d8f6ecd4d0-image.png
the compass needle will always be pointing to the north/south, the needles angle/orientation will vary depending on your heading, the needles angle/orientation will vary so it always points to the north/south

in "top down north up" mode your position/location icon wil be to the in the centre of your screen & your position/location icon will rotate as your heading changes
the compass needle will always be pointing to the top of your screen, north is up & up is the top of the screen
                  37c3d45a-0ec0-40f3-bf1b-d4d94be9df14-image.png

as far as I am aware auto zoom should definitely not be functioning in the "top down heading up" mode
in this mode according to the documentation the zoom should only be set by the magnification keys + & -
no auto zooming should be occuring & the map should stay at the fixed zoom level you have chosen with the + & - keys
If things are zooming when your in "top down heading up" mode then something definitely seems wrong
