Zoom setting?
-
Hello,
On the map layer settings screen there are 4 options for zoom setting. Can someone explain these to me? I've tried all 4 settings in the Android app during navigation and they all do the same thing. I end up with a tightly zoomed in screen of my current position which is the least useful amount of information. I'd expect the instruction-based zoom setting to zoom out and show the next turn even if it's miles away instead of the next 50 meters of road. Thanks.

@abowen I am assuming you are refering to these 4 settings
I think the info pop up next to the heading "Zoom Adjustments" is fairly clear
What is probably not so clear is when these functions are going to be in effect
As far as I understand the automatic zoom functions only apply to the "dynamic" mode.
You switch between "dynamic", "heading up" & "north up" by clicking the CompassThe "heading up" & "north up" are both top down views & you adjust the zoom level manually with the +/- buttons
The "dynamic" mode is a tilted/angled view, the level of tilt & zoom are controlled by the 2 settings at the bottom of the first image above -
Thanks for the reply. My understanding is that dynamic mode is the default and setting zoom to intersections or instructions should be doing what I want as described in my first post. It never zooms out far enough, I’ll see the turn on the map when I’m within a half mile or so but would prefer much greater distance. It does me no good when I’m on a road for 5 miles before the next turn and it remains zoomed way in.l
I’ve also tried the app in heading up and north up modes. I’ll manually adjust the zoom level and the app continues to zoom in as it pleases.

Hello,
The zoom buttons only change the current view during navigation; you can also do this by pinching with two fingers.
However, this is quickly reset when the position marker is rewritten.
In the screenshot above, there is <default zoom correction>. For Active 5 tablet, I currently use -0.6, which works quite well. However, you will need to experiment, as it depends on the size of the display and orientation and possibly also on the resolution.
You will only see the next waypoint if it is within the area currently displayed.

@abowen if your in dynamic mode then the view you see will be tilted
you can adjust the range/zoom level you see using the "zoom correction" level
a more negative value will let you see further ahead, a more positive value will let you see lessthe "tilt correction" also has a small effect on how far ahead you can see, it is not as big a factor as the "zoom correction"
a more negative tilt will be more like the the top down birdseye view, a more positive tilt will give a longer more elongated view as if from the top of a building rather than an airplaneas @Rainer-Treichel says all of the above only applies when you are actually navigating, if your sitting still looking at the map page, not navigating, then toggling the compass setting just zooms you in
