Waypoint skipping. MRA vs Beeline.
-
I have 2 videos showing how MRA and Beeline handle situations where I ignore instructions and skip shaping points (on purpose).
The route has 2 shaping points between a start and a finish :

MRA:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gqHwu-rZHajmVUM5C5iKiFgt3zDUaR_0/view?usp=drivesdkI would like to use MRA but cannot. Its the Beeline behaviour related to skipping which I am missing. I have tried multiple combinations of options but cannot get the skipping to work. In this example MRA tries to send me back 7 times to the missed point. During this time I might miss instructions to navigate to the next point and I am without the ETA info to that next point. On highways this can be a long time.
When I ignore multiple instructions to leave the main road I have decided to skip a shaping point and don't really want to touch the screen to skip the point point manually. In fact I am not allowed in my job. According to the in-app documentation the Beeline type of behaviour should be possible and I think that it has worked like that in the past for me.
I hope the team will make this possible one day, not necessarily as the default but as a possible type of behavior.
Interesting also is the warning from Beeline for being off-route at around 3 minutes into the video. -
Which version of the app are you currently using? Right now, version 4.4.0 (build 403) is being tested in beta. The current skipping algorithm has been designed with slightly more conservative behavior when it comes to skipping shaping points. It’s quite possible that points 2 and 3 in your sample route are just a bit too borderline for the algorithm (perhaps even unintentionally!).
In my experience, MRA behaves more like in the Beeline example video you posted. I haven’t seen the behavior from the first video recently. I don’t find it strange—just interesting
