Crashing when initiating or ending route and using barbuttons

I have the bar buttons that connect to my iPhone and allow me to move the map, skip waypoints and zoom in and out as I ride. They are a great addition to the app.
One problem, If they are connected to my phone via Bluetooth and I try to start or end navigation the app crashes every time.
What I have done is added a switch to the bar buttons so I can first start the route on my phone and then turn on the bar buttons so they connect. If I follow that sequence it all works well.
What would be wonderful is if the navigation could start and end while connected to the bar buttons so that I can simplify my set up.
I am using an iPhone 15 pro max and the latest update of the navigation app.

Thanks for all of your work, the app is really the best navigation tool on the market! -

I know for a fact that this problem was non existing in some earlier versions, but I haven't been using them lately. I will try to reproduce tonight.

Hi, I saw a similar issue with my Oukitel tablet and the Motobuttons (a Bluetooth controler same as BarButtons).
When the power of the Motorbuttons is switched off, MRA hangs and need a new start with total "end App" before. Same happens if MRA ist runing and Motorbuttons is switched on.
You need to make sure, that the power is on before MRA starts and power is swiched of after MRA is stopped.
I have no idea what this causes, because the Motorbuttons are implemented in the Android system as a keyboard. When I use a BT keyboard, there is no problem.@kevin try to use a BT keyboard and see what happens.

wrote on 15 May 2024, 13:12 last edited by@Jörgen, I have not experienced that before. But what I do experience is that after pairing the connection works fine, but after a power down of the BB it will not reconnect unless deleted from the bluetooth settings, and paired again...

I bought a BarButton PCB and will build that controller in the net month to see which on is better.
May be I can report how it works.
Because of the obove issues I tought about a modified keyboard as controller, you only need to send some keyboard commands (like C, N, D, etc.) -

wrote on 15 May 2024, 17:54 last edited by@Jörgen I will try with a Bluetooth keyboard and see if that makes a difference… it is interesting that my issues are different than yours. I have to be sure that power to the bar buttons are powered off before I start or end a route. The bar buttons do connect and disconnect from the phone easily as often as I want them to.

I can only say it works as intended (except for the reconnect problem explained earlier) and I experienced no problems, no crash, and I could start the app and navigate menus as usual, without a crash.

wrote on 16 May 2024, 09:33 last edited by@Con-Hennekens thank you for checking. What device are you using? I wonder if it’s unique to my phone or a certain model of iPhone. I do have a work around so it’s not preventing g me from using the app or the buttons, just one extra small step.

(but that don't change anything).

@Corjan-Meijerink : Is the coincidence that it also shows such behavior with this BT keyboard from @Kevin-Buckley.

I just got back from a 26 day motorcycle trip to Spain and Portugal. I used my DIY BarButtons keyboard. And... I really had 0.0 problems. I paired the keyboard once. I also just tried it again. I put power on the BB, blinked a bit and the LED went out again. The bt button on the settings then says BarButtons. When I then turn on my packtalk bold, the text changes to Bluetooth. It makes no difference to the operation whether I first pair the BarButtons and then the Cardo Packtalk or vice versa. The phone I had on the trip was my Oukitel WP23. I just tried everything with my Moto G30. It makes no difference.

@Baltus You're right, the BarButtons don't have this problem.
I am just finished my DIY BarButtons and tested it. -
