@Thomas-Scharrer To add to the already good suggestion to share the route here by @Rob-Verhoeff, I would like to emphasize that converting a tracklog or track for that matter, to a route is never never never flawless! It will always take some elbow grease to make the route match the track. The initial conversion takes you quite far, but you'll definitely need to move and add waypoints to make the route follow the track. Note as well that your toolkit settings may prevent the routing engine to route at roads you did ride on for which the track contains the data. Think about seasonal closures, unpaved roads or highways etc. all to be taken into consideration!

You know how to show the tracklog alongside the converted route right? Without that it is nearly impossible to make them equal.

Hi and thanks to all of you for your comments.

I am actually a little relieved that this is a known thing and not only happening to me. Based on that I think its no point for me to share my route because I anyway need to fix in manually.

I have already tried all possible toolkit settings like removing season closures etc but it didnt help. If there is a good and practical solution how to fix this manually then thats fine for me.

@Stefan-Hummelink You are right, its rather impossible to fix this in the normal route view and I tried already with two screens, having the route on one and the track-logon the other but still its very difficult or impossible.
So no, I dont know how to show the tracklog alongside the converted route but it would be great to know.

@Guzt Sorry I am not completely able to follow your above description regarding the 3 stripes and adding the track etc.

@Thomas-Scharrer said in Route completely messed up when creating route from tracklog:

      Hi,

I have tracked a route I drove last year with a group. The tracklog I created is exactly how the driven route was but now when I try to create a route from this tracklog the created route is completely messed up.
It is not going on the same roads at all and in some cases it just stops at some point and continues another plase like going back and forth.

I have tried all kids of options with different maps and toolkit options but there is no chance to get the correct route.

Is there any solution to solve this?

      Looking forward to your comments.

      Regards,
      Thomas

I am familair with this issue. I experienced it also a few times.

As i remember, a track has multiple waypoints/route points so it follows your route precisely as intended. When convderting it tio a route, most of those waypoint will get lost and a route is also limited by road closures, (seasonal closures mostly) etc. And depending on whether a road is accessible for motorbikes, a route will make a detour after being comverted from a track. Also, a track does not care about seasonal closures, road closures, etc.

So yes, after converting a route from a track to a route you have to do some checking.

This is how i experienced it.

I think it we should all better stick to the proper definitions...
Tracks have NO waypoints, routes do.
      Tracks are a breadcrumb trail.
When you convert a track to a route waypoints get ADDED not LOST.
The routing algorithm defines the route between waypoints NOT the track.

So yes, after converting a route from a track to a route you have to do some checking.

This is the only meaningful statement indeed, but it needed some correction too 😉

Woa, in that case the following built-in method works a charm:
Click hamburger menu in left menu bar:

This method is also possible for comparing routes to oneanother and not only to tracks. To compare routes, navigate to "Routes" from the hamburger menu, instead of Tracklogs, and repeat the steps:

@Thomas-Scharrer it still requires manual labour but easy labour 😋... And the more often you do it, the faster it gets ... Practices makes perfect always holds. 😄

@Stefan-Hummelink thanks for putting my description in "picture language". Only thing that is missing is getting wrid of too many meaningless shapingpoints. Toolkit - less shaping points - pop up; choose 25 for a 300 km route (adjust accordingly to your route).

Depending on the route, but if it was intended to be curvy then 25 for 300km is definitely not sufficient! However, I do agree that deleting unnecessary shaping points is a good workmanship. Some nuance is in place here. In my experience almost always more shaping points are necessary than the auto convert mechanism used to replicate the track, at least for curvy tracks.

@Peter-Schiefer Hi Peter, I translated your message to be sure that I understood it correctly and my conclusion is that we live in very different regions.
You specifically mention passes, yea sure, passes do no not require many shaping points to force the route since not many branch-offs are applicable.

In my area though, I almost have to force the route with a waypoint on each street, to get my curvyness I like. I can provide many examples but I feel like I do not have to prove that 😉 it all depends on the whether you're riding in urban areas or in the country areas 🙂 .

@Peter-Schiefer to "create" a similar experience to the Eifel, while riding here in my region, I have to select roads that emulate the same "curvyness" when joined together to into a route. Whereas in the Eifel, you simply ride onto one nice curvy road for 10km straight and 2 waypoints may work... I did that too while I was there.

I think we understand eachother. 😄

@Thomas-Scharrer yeap MRA sometimes makes a real mess of it. After clicking on the use as route tab the route will be saved. Open it and click toolkit - optimize route - less shaping points and choose about 25 for a 300 km long route. Click on the 3 stripes next to the shaping points and add the track which correspond to that route. Now draw the black route line to the red track line. Some work, I know but is the only reasonable way to do it.
