Ladies and gentlemen! We are back 🎉

A month after our last Beta update, it's time for a new one.
Yes, it has been a slightly longer wait than we anticipated but it's gonna be a nice one! Delay was caused due to some development issues / obstacles, illness and vacation.

The 4.0.5 beta will become available later this week - before the weekend.

This update does however contain so much new features and improvements that by time you are halfway reading this post, you've already forgotten the time you had to wait 😉

    CarPlay & Android Auto improvements

As promised, we would keep working on the CP / AA module.
    We've done that!

    We now show:

    • Speedlimit
    • Current speed
    • Lane assistance
    • Camera / Truck warnings

    render_carplay.png

From CP / AA you can now also:

    • Change route avoid options
    • Search for stops along your route
    • Skip waypoints

    render_avoid.png

    render_cp_search.png

Amazing right? 🎉 With this update we believe that CarPlay & Android Auto finally get the level it deserves.

    Nearby fuel stops

The app will actively suggest an efficient nearby fuel stop on your route - from MRA with ❤ This is displayed instead of the next instruction and we've increased the size of this element 😉

    render_fuel.png

Tapping the icon will add the fuel stop to your route, keeping your original route as intended. If you want to turn this off, you can do so from the functional settings.

Note: skipping extra stops, will not skip them but totally remove them from your route. Keeping your original waypoint count as planned.

    Search for stop while navigating

Besides the nearby fuel suggestions, you can also search yourself!
Exactly the same search functionality as you are used to is available while navigating. Simply open the menu and search for a stop 🎉

    render_search.png

As with nearby fuel stops, the search results are added efficiently along your route.

Note: skipping extra stops, will not skip them but totally remove them from your route. Keeping your original waypoint count as planned.

    Custom tilt level

Do you prefer more horizon? Of less?
A discussion of the past! 🙂 You can now choose your own tilt level from the map configuration settings.

    render_tilt.gif

    Fixed issues

    • Motorhome not allowed to use highway when avoiding toll
    • Better position accuracy on (older, mostly Android) devices
    • Logic to when detailed lane assist should kick in
    • CarPlay showing multiple position indicators after switching between apps
    • CarPlay iconsize next maneuver very small
    • GPX files not opening with the app
    • Incorrect distances shown to the next maneuver
    • General stability improvements

    Minor features

    • CP / AA: Now includes translations, respecting your language preference
    • New icons for speed warnings
    • Increased size of next maneuver widget
    • Preparation for Carpe Iter support (only available to their development team)
    • Navigations can be resumed using BT controllers / input devices
    • Previous camera tracking mode is respected when refocussing the camera (in short: compass tap behavior 😉)
    • Newest HERE SDK (4.15.5)

    Known issues in this Beta

    • Offline maps update might not be available (contacted HERE)
    • Battery usage (ongoing issue with HERE)
    • Roundabouts sometimes show incorrect exit direction
    • Other common minor issues shared in the past weeks / month

We are looking forward to all your feedback! 😃

Thanks so much for your continuing participation in the Beta program.

    Cheers,
    Corjan

@Corjan-Meijerink did a test with Android auto Saturday
The lane assist wasn't visible on the Android auto. It did work on the phone
The lane assist came in to late. About 500 meters before the junction Witch is in most cases in the Netherlands already past the beginning of the exit lane. Maybe it could be a bit earlier
I didn't notice any indication of gas stations on the route thoug I passed several

@Marinus-van-Deudekom, Yes there were complains about the new laneassist being shown too long. It has been shortened, but I agree it is really short now, and too close to the exit indeed.

About the gas stations, did you enable that in functional settings?

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!

@Marinus-van-Deudekom I've changed the configuration to show up to 750m before the exit.

Lane information should have been displayed in Android Auto! 🙂

@Corjan-Meijerink I did a short test during the weekend. The next fuel station seems very good but it is sometimes replaced by the next turn sign. I tried to catch the rule but I couldn't. In my opinion next turn could be shown let's say 500 meters before the nearest turn. Fuel station is more important to me. Would be possible to show it permanently below the next turn icon? It would be perfect to have an info about two nearest stations, even instead of the icon.

            @Stanisław Thanks for the feedback!

The fuel station is shown when:

            • Next maneuver is more than 7500 meters aways
            • OR: fuel station is within 1500 meters

So a fuel station that happens to be on the same junction that you're about to turn right on 200m away, for example, wins over the junction instruction?

i.e. get directed into fuel station, fill up, and next instruction is - immediately turn right.

(I'm not suggesting its bad logic or anything - just checking I understand correctly 🙂 ).

                @richtea999 yes, that's correct!

If you are however approaching the fuel station (when added), we won't suggest any other fuel stations (only after passing the one added). This means that you will then see the next instruction again.

@Corjan-Meijerink all the concern about fuel stops seems a little strange to me. I always plan fuel stops as part of my route planning... based on the fuel needs of those traveling with me. Still, feature seems to be very useful to a lot of people. I just wish the POI information in HERE was more accurate. Great progress on the app.

That’s exactly why this feature can be turned off 😃

On my Tiger I have nearly 500km range when driving without thinking about saving fuel 😉 Let’s just say I don’t ever need a random fuel stop. If I know I’m on a long drive I plan the fuel stop ahead, just like you.

@Corjan-Meijerink Fuel station is not just a place to fill up, it is also a toilet, coffee etc, so it's hard to plan all these things in advance 🙂 I plan a stop ad hoc, especially on a higway, by looking at the nearest station or the next one - the decision is made on the fly, without stopping, that's why the info about two nearest stations could be useful. Anyway thanks for the modification, it is of for sure a step in the good direction 🙂

@Corjan-Meijerink thnkx Corjan. The lane assist was not visible on the radio. At least not in the way it was on my phone

Impressive results in these new releases!
                                  Congratulations!!

Can you please share a bit more on the battery issue on Android? I do know you're working on this with Here, but in the last months every beta release I was hoping for a fix, bit everytime I read the same: next - investigating battery issues with Here ...

A navigation app with battery issues is really not handy.. I keep needing to use Waze as a backup for the longer rides.
hope a fix is close by. Can you share your thoughts on this?

                                    @Rolf-Aalders

I guess this is a hard one for the Dev’s due to the multiplicity of Android Devices being used.
Personally I have never had any issues on my Samsung S21+.
It always gives me a positive increase whatever the battery is at currently.
I never login to the Samsung account on this phone as I suspect that all those Bixby routines running in the background would have a detrimental affect for MRA Next.

@Lynchy67 yeah, I agree. This is tough. Waze, Google maps, Here, Locus maps and even Komoot all give my phone a positive charge.... So it is possible.
I prefer MRA, but cannot use it for navigation >60m due to battery drain.

Actually, only negative charge when navigating (so locus maps should not be listed here).
Using MRA to just track my rides does give a position charge.

                                      Hoping on a fix 🙂

How do you activate the POIs to see them in navigation?

The POI's that you've added in the Routeplanner are now displayed in the app too. While navigating, you can add this POI to your route by long pressing it.

                                          @Jörgen Exactly as described 😉
You only see the POI's added in the Routeplanner.
After that, if you want to actively navigate to it, long press the POI.
