Minimum iphone required
-
Hi all!
I always used my old iPhone 6 with the old navigation app, which was doing fine.
I was two years out and started driving again today. Unfortunately the new MRA app doens't work well on my old iPhone 6 (ios 12.5.7). When i select a route and want to start driving, i get serious lag and the app freezes every time.
I use the phone without SIM-card, connected to a hotspot to my newer phone, which i keep in my pockets. Even at home, connected to wifi, the app is really laggy, so i seems that the iPhone 6 is too slow for the new app? I didn't have any issiues on the old navigation app. I tried resetting the complete iphone and apps, but the problem stays.
Which is the minimum iPhone required for flawless use on the road please (connected on hotspot - no lag on high speed)?
I hope to start riding my routes again soon!
Thanks for your advice!!

There is a minimum requirement for the OIS: 12.4 -
@Jack-van-Tilburg thank you. I also saw these minimum ios and my iphone 6 fits these, but is still not strong enough. I’m guessing the 1 RAM isn’t enough and i was wondering which is the minimum processor/ram before purchasing another old iphone.

Unfortunately I don't know any other system requirements.
But I can imagine that the 6 is not powerful enough. -
Yeah, the 6 is really pushing it. I’ve tested on a 8 plus and that was somewhat acceptable
Our secondary development phone is a iPhone X and that works fine! -
I've also used a plain iPhone 8 (which has 2GB rather than the 3GB RAM of the 8 Plus) and that works OK, although it did get quite hot (I've now switched to dark mode).
The good news is that the iPhone 8 runs the latest iOS 16 which, for an 'old' phone, is pretty impressive.
And the bad news? It won't get the upcoming iOS 17 that is due soon, so Corjan's suggestion of buy an X (or maybe an 11) gets you another year or two of OS updates - 1 extra year for each jump up the numbering you make. If you use other apps on the phone, then that's the sensible thing to do. If you only use MRA then I guess you could risk it with an 8.
I'll be moving up in a few months.
See the iOS 17 phone list here:

Thanks guys, i found an old iphone SE but experience the same lag. Looks like i will have to look for a second hand iphone X or SE 2020. Thanks for the advice!

@Stijn-a last time I was out, I downloaded a GPS speedometer (called Speedometer) which seemed to have good reviews and not too bad ads. It can run in a small window over top of your active window. I ran this while navigating with MRapp. It seemed to improve the responsiveness of MRapp and did a better job of following on the road. Big improvement around corners. I really don't know why this is and suspect it won't help with battery usage.
