Weather Radar and CarPlay/Android Auto
-
So... was curious to see if I could find weather radar apps that support CarPlay and Android Auto... Apparently, I'm in luck... There are a couple of new ones out that do.
For CarPlay that app is called Weather on the Way.
For Android the app is called Weather & Radar.
It appears you have to pay for the subscription to get the radar (i.e. useful features) on Weather on the Way. Weather & Radar is both ads and subscription based. You appear to get desired functionality either way (just have to see ads on the free version).
I was playing around with the wireless CarPlay/Android Auto display device (mine goes by the BINIZE brand name) today and used both Scenic and Weather on the Way while I was out. It was nice to be able to switch to the weather radar to see some weather we had coming in. I was able to time my return home without getting wet. It started raining at my house about 10 minutes after I returned. This is just one handy scenario for having weather radar.
Thought I read somewhere that the Weather & Radar might get a dedicated card on Coolwalk. Don't know if the same is cooking for CarPlay's Dashboard. It might be neat if it was.
It would be really cool if MyRoute-app Mobile/Next could overlay this weather data on the map. Not only does Weather on the Way display the radar, but it also displays (user selectable) alerts, temperature, precipitation, and wind for points along the route. The radar shows storm track arrows showing you where it's headed. Worth checking out. Might be cool if Next could do that.
Anyway... Just a wishcast to throw out there.

@Tim-Thompson would indeed be quite cool!

@Corjan-Meijerink and a possibility to automatically recalculate the route through sunny places

@Lex-Kloet, yes! And preferably over the Michelin "green" roads, while we're at it
