If my understanding is correct, the structure of the library is based on a folder hierarchy and it is not possible to have folders with the same name in the hierarchy. So if the highest level is 'Routes' and 'Tracklogs', you cannot have subfolders, at any level, sharing the same name, i.e. I cannot have '2026 10' to hold the routes I planned in October, under 'Routes' and '2026 10' to hold the tracklogs I followed under 'Tracklogs'. Similarly, I can cannot have 2026 10 with subfolders Routes and Tracklogs, and 2026 11 also with subfolders Routes & Tracklogs. If this is correct, in my opinion, it restricts the way information can be organized in the library.

      Do you mean like this?

What I would like to see is a hierarchy that allowed the ability to separate routes from tracklogs using a common 'date' format for the folders containing related planned routes and the associated logs. I don't want the routes and logs in the same folder, e.g

        image.jpeg

The date subfolders contain respectively routes and logs of activity. I can work around the current structure by adding a postfix 'T' to the tracklog folders.

@john-matthews-0 ...I do understand you, but It's no longer necessary, to keep routes in one folder structure and tracklogs in another folder structure.
Now there is only one structure and you can keep your routes and tracklogs together in one folder. Simply use the selector button on top to see only routes, only tracklogs, or both:

As I said I do not wish to have the routes and tracklogs in the same folders. This is my personal preference.

I have many routes and tracklogs which are stored in Basecamp, I only started using MyRoute in June and I wish to transfer all my accumulated data across. The migration driven by Garmin no longer maintaining the software and it will not work on the MAC from the next version of the OS.

This is how I currently achieve the structure I want separating the routes and tracklogs into separate month based folders.

If I take a tracklog and use the 'link to route' functionality - it just brings up my monthly dated route folders. I think this will provide a very simple and efficient approach with large numbers of routes and tracklogs.

I do realize I could just have a single set of monthly folders in the library and let the MyRoute software separate the routes and tracklogs using the buttons. I prefer to keep them in separate folders - just my personal preference.

@John-Matthews-0, Do you actually have seen problems doing that how you like it?

No, but my intuition, as a retired IT professional, is that the ability to have a hierarchy that allows identical folder names, in the way I have illustrated, would provide additional flexibility.

So why make this assumption and ask here, instead of try it for yourself, and make a feature request to accommodate if it does not work like you wish? You can skip the request, it just works 😉

I raised this post as a discussion, in order to better understand the folder structure. It was as a result of this message.

                    image.jpeg

I now understand why I obtained the message. It was because of a misconception there were two system folders below 'Library', namely 'Routes' & 'Tracklogs'. I did not realize that to have the structure I was trying to achieve, I had to first create those folders. They do not exist in the system. There is no folder hierarchy, you have to create it.

This I have now done and achieved the structure I wanted - I worked it out myself!
