Recent trip made hard !

Hi All,

First trip planned on MRA (which I love for planning) to Spain and the length of Portugal.

First experience with MRA, exporting into Tread in the suggested 1.1 manner.

What I discovered......

Shaping points did not move across accurately. Meaning that planned roads to ride, The N2, were missed in places causing all kinds of confusion in the group and frustrations. In total over 9 days a few hours of riding was lost.

Exported gpx files, somehow, we're different across different XT2 devices, besides a few hours of comparing settings in apps and on devices to confirm consistency of the settings.

I understand that some of these issues will be a Tread issue and am not placing full blame on MRA, however I am no a happy person with the MRA set up for GPX accuracy to export to Garmin XT2. The sole purpose of the purchase was the advertised accuracy of the GPX to export to the Garmin XT2 and this was simply not good enough.

If there is a glaring fix please let me know and I will hold my hands up to being an idiot.

I have tried everything I can see in the forums including exporting direct to memory card, correct settings etc etc.

Please advise .....

I currently feel I have purchased an expensive piece of software that is useless to me.

I am however hoping it is just user error on my part .

Have a look on this thread on the Zumo forums regarding tread and how it changes routes/waypoint positions.

Most users seem to have disconnected their Zumo's from tread. I have an XT and have disconnected it from explore as its a poor piece of software. Hence why i'm here and use MRA for route planning and navigation these days.

This post is 2024 and base camp is unsupported now. I feel this is irrelevant tbh as the whole point of buying MRA was to have it export to Tread seamlessly......

Some of the waypoints in MRA moved to Tread 500m away from the road I wanted to take. Not particularly accurate co-ordinates it seems ...... feel at a loss at the minute. Hopefully someone at MRA will address the software.

Your Zumo is the problem. Not MRA.
The most simple solution is to buy an AA/ACP screen and use it in combination with MRA

Oh yeah its the very expensive Garmin XT2 that's the problem. Buy more expensive stuff to match a program ........

Hardware is excellent, screen excellent, location gps excellent, battery life excellent, touch screen excellent etc etc..... it can't possible be the software from MRA that can't convert to a device it says it can support ..... some real help please

Am I converting it wrong ? I don't want a mirror system, I want a stand alone sat nav I can plan a route on a computer....... its 2026 not 1995

Tread is what I plan on when on the go, simple for UK and very effective. So ideally don't want to get rid of it. There must be a way !!!

Why would that be lack of accuracy from MRA exports?
Open your GPX in whatever GPX viewer and see that MRA is not the one to blame here.

I'm going with MRA saying it can export to Garmin XT2 ....... and it clearly can't.

I didn't buy the Garmin XT2 because of MRA. I bought MRA because it said it can expor seamlessly to the XT2 which is clearly not true. Unless, again, it is me making an error in the export ........

I love the planning g on MRA. Just wish it moved to Garmin better ..... like it said it can .....

Surely this is just a software update by some incredibly brainy person....

@evzie care to share a problematic MRA route and we can check it over? I sometimes feel I'm alone in continuing with MRA/Tread/XT2 and that it works for me. There are parameters to stick within to ensure success but I've done two large(ish) tours this year using the above and it all worked.

Occasionally there's a glitch but wasn't there ever? The main one being shaping points moving to a faster road if it is nearby but there are ways to mitigate.

Yes MRA can expect seamlessly to Garmin devices of you use the cable connection. The wireless connection app Tread is not working properly and that's why you have trouble.
Have you tried the cable connection

I'd noticed that.

It seems that Tread cannot process routes with foreign shaping points. It cannot even process its own routes with shaping points. Perhaps becasue some one decided to call them all 'Shaping Point' ?

I noted that if you have a route on the XT2 screen and edit it - say remove a Via Point - when it has finished, all of the shaping points have been removed. I'm finding it harder and harder to find what the Tread App could actually be used for - apart from destroying routes.

What you describe is not a MRA problem. I've used Garmin devices since 2004 I still have all of them and they all still work so no issues with the hardware their software now sucks

For me the my XT was problematical until I divorced it from Garmin Explore. I use it on an Africa Twin adventure sports for proximity alerted POI's and tracks only. The little Zumo 340 and 390 are used on my old R1150GS and are great little units. The old Nav iv and Streetpilot 2610 i use to test compatibility with garminised open street maps.
