Please add additional waypoint icons for car or campervan
-
I know MRA started as an app for motorbikes. But since it has added the possibility to use it also when driving a car or campervan. I would really like to see a few additional icons added to the waypoint list.
MRA development team please add:
- I for Tourist Information,
- Watertap for waterpoints,
- Shopping cart (I know that is also in the POI's but as a camper-driver they are mandatory stops so would love it under waypoints, as well)
Please make us camper-drivers happy and add these, for us, valuable waypoint icons.

@Inge-Bakermans I understand your question. If you search the forum, you’ll see that a lot has already been written about this topic. If all the icons that we users have on our wish lists were added, the list would quickly become overwhelming and far too large.

I search most of the time in the ACSI, Camperstop or Campercontact (they all seem to work with the same database) to places, with the requirements I need. Then activate the Camperpoi in MRA and you will find your desired Camperstop easily.

I agree, but that is solvable by categorizing them. I Think the app would greatly benefit from better targeted POI icons, and maybe even a method of uploading once own icon's.

Yes, but that is not what @Inge-Bakermans is asking for, she is asking for distinctive icons for the feature you described.

@Con-Hennekens yes I know, but since these icons are not there, and I suppose they will not come, I just provided my workaround for her needs

As these items change a lot I think it is not a good idea to implement them in a route planner like MRA.
Better use a dedicated (POI) database for these items and import the items in your route.
Or you can use the Overpass API to get the POI out of Openstreetmap, here an example of all the campings in Slovenia:
https://umap.openstreetmap.fr/nl/map/overpass-test_1271586#17/46.33628/13.55485Please note that some items are drawn in areas and not as POI in Openstreetmap

I am not asking for a poi list import - I would love to be able to mark with the appropriate icon the ones that I need within my route.
Als I think these icons are not only handy for campervanners/ car drivers but also for those travelling on 2 wheels.Lex, I do use P4N app to find waterpoints/ shops etc... but would love to be able to place them in my mra route with the appropriate waypoint icon.
Could you please elaborate on "I suppose they will not come". For I see no reason why they could not be added or make it eg. possible to choose 3/4 extra icons from a pre-made list.If you cater for more than just motorbikers you should, I think, also add icons that the other groups (car & campervanners) have a need for.
Yes, I do improvise by using eg. the beerglas for a waterpoint - but that is not what it really is intended for so when sharing a route with others that causes confusion.

@Inge-Bakermans a small clarification: "you"... I don't work for MRA, but like you, I'm a user. I'm a bit closer to the action, but my response was mainly inspired by what Con wrote. He's an Alfa tester, after all. He's not only closer to the action, I think he also lights a fire now and then
What I'd much rather see is a standard set of all-around POI icons, when you start MRA. And when you use a specific mode of transport, that transport-specific icons are added. Because what use is Ducati dealerships to a campervan owner, and a motorcyclist really doesn't want to be looking for available campervan sites. This would avoid a whole list of POI-icons and make searching easier.
Anyway, I can only make suggestions; I'm not in the decision-making phase.

You don't have to remember them by heart; if the list gets too long, you could divide them by category.

Haha! Just like you I am an "ordinary" user and don't work for MRA. Lighting fires I indeed do every now and then
Hence my support for @Inge-Bakermans her request. I find myself not finding suitable icons regularly too. Categorizing them would be a good idea to keep them organized, and indeed, your idea to "fix" their visibility on transport-mode is really not a bad one. The difficulty probably is more in finding GUI elements that keep it simple in use.

I am supporting the idea of having additional categorized POI icons too. At the end it is just a personal preference which one you use. At Google MyMaps there are more icons to choose from and if you see how they solved the issue with too many to display, you have a very splendid example how to manage many icons.
a) you have the standard icons (Beliebte Symbole) always available
in addition, "Andere Symbole" is showing "recently used" icons - the translation Google used here is not correct in the sense what the functionality is about
b) clicking on "Weitere Symbole" (more icons) you get the categorized overview with a search option top right
Benefits, you have your recent icons available on a fingertip, tons of choices well categorized and searchable, you can define your own colour (having a larger colour choice too I believe).
This said, importing POI's from MyMaps or any other sources like POIBase to MRA and taking the symbol and colour into account would be perfect. But who is perfect at the end?
