Tapping compass not working

I had a strange issue today. After a stop and restart of a route, the mode was changed to North up. Tapping the compass only worked sometimes and the pop up message saying what mode was selected was not displayed. I finally gave up. After my next stop and restart if the route, it was still in North up but now tapping the compass worked fine and the selected mode pop up message was displayed fine. I doubt that I will be able to reproduce the problem but I'll keep an eye on it.

I saw this also.
Tapping the compass had only effect when a route was active. -
That is by design at this point and will change when a “free drive” mode is added (which for now will probably be the same screen but with a way to close the menu)

Changes to the camera mode on the home screen will be made in the upcoming beta update
