As a Gold member you have more options available than as a basic user.
From the support page:

When you create an account with MRA, you're automatically a Basic user. This is the free version of the Route Planner. It allows you to create and save a limited number of routes to your account without access to any additional features. This is and will remain free.
SILVER
Would you like no limit on the number of saved routes and still enjoy some fun extras like Nearby Routes, Segments, and Animate? Then the Route Planner Silver subscription is perfect for you!
GOLD
The Route Planner Gold subscription is the most comprehensive of the Route Planner subscriptions. It gives you access to all Silver features and more, such as using the TomTom and HERE maps in the Route Editor and all Toolkit options. With all the extra options, you can customize your route completely to your liking.*

I have a gold route planner, is the route planner above the Gold any better please. Allowing more flexibility
Hi @Chris-Brooker as far as I know Gold is the top level of subscription for the route planner & allows access to all & every function within the route planner
What level above Gold are you referring too?
