Anyone using a Remotek BT Controller with MRA ?
-
A few months ago this question was asked by someone using iOS and they were directed to a SilverFox product. There is a significant price difference between the 2 brands and the Remotek sure looks to be up to the task for my purpose with an Android device. Any wisdom on the brand ?
-
@Kenny-1, I know someone who will dispute this (and add pictures to his comment ), but general consensus on this forum is: "don't do it". It is like paying 130 euro for a 20 cent generic TV remote... Yes there is a price difference, but the quality is incomparable. If you want cheap (like I do ), better check-out BarButtons DIY project, or similar ones.

Try using the search function in the forum!
https://forum.myrouteapp.com/search?term=remotek&in=titlesYou'll find this post for example: https://forum.myrouteapp.com/topic/7331/remotek-one-exchange-of-experiences
In all my honesty, I think there are better options as @Con-Hennekens said. The Remotek is pretty expensive for what it is. I'd either paying more or paying less That said, it does get the job done!
SilverFox is amazing!

@Con-Hennekens Thanks for this advice. I sure don't want to throw away my hard earned money for anything appearing good but isn't. I am always curious and interested to know what shortcomings and strength differences there are. I see very high end units made for extreme conditions and then there are the 20 euro ones from Ali-Exp and Amazon that look more suitable for bicycles.

@Kenny-1 I can only echo what Corjan said about SilverFox. The quality and performance is top notch, possibly the best that money can buy.
-
@Corjan-Meijerink Thank you as well Corjan. I've read the links to past posts you gave. It really looks just like you said and I would rather spend a bit more up front for a better long term satisfaction. The SilverFox looks the part. Now about the Christmas discounts ... LOL.
-
@Nick-Carthew Thanks Nick, I agree. It really looks like it's built to last. I'll just need to save a little longer before the purchase.
-
@Kenny-1 I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed.
-
@Nick-Carthew May I ask why you choose this particular model from SF as opposed to the 3 button unit or perhaps why you prefer it over the C.I. units ? I will help me decide.
-
@Kenny-1 Yes, that's a simple question to answer. The B8J was the only option when I purchased it, the H1 was still on the drawing board
-
@Nick-Carthew I have ordered the B8J. I like the xtra function button.

Hi @Kenny-1 sorry looks like I missed the boat on this one
Other controllers may be superior but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Remotek,
it does exactly what it says on the tin.
It is extremely compact which was the main reason I chose it,
other controllers fit fine on massive adventure buses but on a sports bike there is just not the space in the cockpit area. All the functions on the Remotek work as implemented & one function I find especially useful is its ability to toggle between multiple map/navigations apps.
I can have MRA running as my main navigation app & in the background also be running Osmand, a quick click & I can switch between apps.
I find this is especially useful when trying to locate petrol stations as the implementation of this feature still needs quite a bit of work in MRA.The only feature I really miss on the Remotek is the ability to Skip points.I don't believe this is an issue with the Remotek itself but rather that the controller profile within MRA omits this functionality. I don't believe it would take much for this to be implemented, I could be wrong but have not been able to get any interest or response to that idea

@Brian-McG Hi Brian, Thanks for jumping in with your comments. It's better to be later than never. I can absolutely appreciate you wanting a smaller controller like the Remotek on a sport bike and comparably the SilverFox is pretty chunky and robust as it was developed with the GS and other adventure bikes as the target group of which I belong. I have a BMW 800GS. My handlebars sometimes take a pretty good trashing in the bush so I always say if it works for you, then it's good for you.

Ii is possible by doubleclick up arrow (as I remember) - menu appears, then select skip next waypoint option and done. Not by one click but possible on Android phone.
By the way, is there any chance to get more then pan and zoom on Iphone? -
Hereby s. Picture, it's going very well now, that's all I need, that in the clean iOS entire MRA application.
Remotek- One comes from off-road use and is very stable. The built-in battery lasts several years
BT coupling:
Remotek One and MRA
In the MRA setting input standard
iOS Remotek One keyboard.
It is imperative to set the iOS accessibility / keyboard control to "OFF".
Then it goes in MRA error-free with the navigation or on the normal maps very well.
Function:
Map right, left, top, bottom
"-/+ Zoom

Hiermit s.
BT Kopplung:
Remotek One und MRA
In der MRA Einstellung Eingabe Standart
iOS Remotek One Tastatur.
Dabei ist es zwingend notwendig die iOS Bedienungshilfe / Tastatursteuerung auf „AUS“ zu stellen.
Dann geht es in MRA fehlerfrei bei der Navigation oder auf bei den normalen Karten sehr gut.
Funktion:
Karte rechts, links, oben, unten
„-/+ Zoomen -
@Hubert-Thoring is there nothing more with the Remotek, like "skip waypoint" "open menu"? Barbuttons and Motorbuttons can.
-
@Jörgen double click the right button will skip a waypoint
https://support.myrouteapp.com/en/support/solutions/articles/12000100670-bluetooth-controllersIt does contain a small mistake I see. The skip waypoint is missing (it says start navigation but that is true only for map home screen)
-
@Corjan-Meijerink None of the linked pages from the controller overview works for me.

So this is what it looks like when your post is hijacked and morphed into a sidebar discussion that is completely off the original topic. I was going so well for the first 10 or so responses.

@Kenny-1 We're still discussing the Remotek and the possibilities with it Seems on topic to be fair.
