MRA Navigation Next support for Chigee AIO-5 and BMW Multi-controller
-
Does anyone know if MRA Navigation Next will support the BMW Multi-controller if the bike has been equipped with the Chigee AIO-5? This device has CarPlay/Android Auto and is connected via the Canbus. It looks very clever having a touch screen.

@Carl-Flint I hope so because I have just ordered the newer Chigee Play (without cameras), however, as I have a BMW R1300GS I know I have to wait for Chigee to make a special remote to connect to the Multi-Controller as the current one for the R1250GS is not compatible.

MRA doesn’t need to do anything. The controls from the BMW Wheel aren’t sent to the phone. The left/right wheel simply moves between the clickable elements on the CarPlay screen. The indicator cancel button then “clicks” on the currently selected element.
It’s the same as using the Tab key on a Windows PC and then using the space bar to select.
It’s a bit clunky, and annoying that only left/right works, but it does mean you can use any CarPlay app without touching the screen if you have the patience to move the selection box around the screen.

'Maybe you can still cancel this
There will be one in July that you can simply connect to the BMW system and it will work with the wonderweel -
@versluis Thanks for the information. I’ll look into that

@Dae-0
Thanks for reply. The new chigee mentioned coming out in July could be interesting for my BMW, although I have a Carpuride 702 at the moment which I like very much. Having clicked on the link from versluis, in the advertising of their new BMW offering, it mentions the ConnectedRide Nav system. I presume this means Navigation preparation? It will be interesting to follow some YouTube tests of the device. -

@Carl-Flint Hi, I have the chigee aio-5 lite installed on my BMW R1250RS, including the 4-pin canbus adapter to control the Chigee with the BMW Wonder Wheel (WW).
It works okay, also the MyRoute-app works perfect (v4.1.3).To be honest, I rarely use the WW because it only has a 'tab' function to scroll from one icon to another one on the selected carplay application screen, and an 'Enter' button to select the choosen icon.
I mainly use the touchscreen and the 4 upper bottoms on the device, as the screen is very responsive.
I hope that Chigee would further enhance this WW features, by supporting the turning of the WW (for example to zoom in or out) , or to control the Volume for example.
But, a happy Chigee user here
ps: I sold my brand new Zumo XT2, as I no longer wanted to 'convert routes' since the MyRoute-app has all the features I need, and also the offline possibilities are very good

Hi Ronny, thanks for posting this info, very helpful. The Chigee looks a good device. I am not interested in the Dash Cams part of the package and for the moment the Carpuride is performing very well. I agree with your comments about not wanting to ‘convert routes’, no need with MRA app. I hope the next iteration of the Chigee will allow more functionality from the BMW multi-controller and maybe be sold separately from the Dash Cams. That would interest me. We will see soon I believe. -
@Carl-Flint I have just received and fitted the “Play” version without cameras. I removed the BMW satnav prep and the CHIGEE sits lovely on the mounting bar and wires into the sat nav socket. I have also mounted my iPhone on a Quad lock bar mount. So on dry days I can get the full screen functionality of the iPhone app plus the Chigee for quick glances. If wet the iPhone goes into the R1300GS cubby hole. It picks up satellites with no problem. I don’t think I really need whizzy wheel functionality. I’m very happy with this set up

@Ronny-Schenkels-0 in the mean time, a software updated has arrived for the Chigee AIO5-Lite, version 2.8, and now the Vertical scrolling of the BMW Wonder Wheel is supported, very nice !!

@Ronny-Schenkels-0 I have been informed by Chigee Support that a new 3 pin can-bus remote control unit will come out in September, enabling scroll navigation with the wonderwheel on the Chigee io-5 Lite.
This will fit on the can-bus adapter on my 1250 GS.

@Hubert-Thoring I have one. You unplug the BMW GPS mount, and in its place plug in the CGRC-LIN adapter. It’s about 2.5cm x 5cm. It pairs with the AIO-5 Lite via Bluetooth.
With it you can use the Wonderwheel to move a highlight box around all the clickable CarPlay elements to select them. It’s a bit like in Windows using the tab key to move between UI elements then hitting space to select. It’s much simpler than it sounds. The connector also transmits the data such as BMW native tyre pressures, rpm, fuel level etc. to the Chigee, which has its own BMW screen.
This is the best way to use the wheel with the original AIO-5 lite.
The alternative, if you don’t already have a Chigee, is to buy the BMW version. This doesn’t need a separate controller as it sits in the BMW cradle and gets the information from the bike directly.

Is there a video about the solutions and applications? I would like to see it.

I would like to see the operation of a navigation app, e.g. with MyRoute app and the zooming or skipping waypoint
I personally use the MyRoute app on the iPhone Xr and the Remotek One for zooming. It would be very interesting for me to see the difference between this and CarPlay.
This is my hardware:

I’m not sure about videos showing the MRA functionality. There must be some out there given how many people have them.
Remember that it’s a touch screen device. You can operate all of CarPlay with the wheel, as I do with non touch gloves, but you can equally operate it by touch only (or a mix of the two)
There are 3 versions, but only two are really relevant.
The original AIO-5 Lite. This has two cameras that act as dashcams. It’s a fixed (bolted) and doesn’t use the BMW cradle. You combine this with the CGRC-Lin to get Wonder wheel functionality and bike data onto the device. This is what I have.
Then there’s the Play BMW edition. It fits in the BMW cradle and doesn’t need the CGRC-LIN. There no cameras with this version as obviously the BMW GPS cradle has no wiring for cameras.
Except for the cameras and the different mounting, both versions offer the same functionality, screen size and work exactly the same.
This video may help if you watch from 20:00 onwards.
One thing that is a pain is the fact you can’t alter the zoom level in MRA from the CarPlay screen. This is an MRA issue. I use Scenic and it has zoom in/out buttons on the CarPlay screen that I can select with the Wonder wheel or by touch.
Skipping a waypoint is easy. Rotate the wheel until the skip button is highlighted, then nudge the wheel to the right to select it. Or, just tap it on the screen if you don’t want to use the wheel.
