MRA App wants permanent GPS access

Recently MyRoute-App wants Location permission all the time. Is this change to allow the app to run in the background with the screen off? I presume this would be for AA/CP or if you want your phone in your pocket but still want to hear navigation instructions. Since I don't do either, I would not to allow all the time.
