Timmelsjoch HERE / MRA mapping problem...
-
Hi, I am planning a new Alpine trip and currently have a work-in-progress map here:
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/8734835?mode=shareI will eventually split it in to day maps, but my problem is in the Timmelsjoch region, waypoints 53 to 63. I have had to add lots of waypoints on this road to get the HERE map, or MRA, to navigate straight between 53 and 63. Without all these points it tries to make a route up and through Innsbruck and back down.
In fact, that loop can be seen on the map because I am tonight trying to get it to go straight from my hotel on Sölden, back over Timmelsjoch and on to waypoint 70. I have placed lots of extra waypoints but MRA is still determined to route me up to Innsbruck and back down.
What is happening? Can anyone help me please??
Thanks, Tom

@Tom-Grzelinski
I don't exactly understand with you want to plan in this region.
Is this what you want? -
@Jack-van-Tilburg Hi Jack, yes, you are correct.
I want to drive from 53 to 64 and back to 53, but MRA does not like this. I have to put many waypoints to get MRA to join 53 to 64 without diverting around. And now I cannot get it to do the return journey at all.
-
Hi Jack,
OK, it I do not understand. Now, it is all working properly. I have deleted all the extra waypoints and the route is working.
The problem was as if 'Disable seasonal closures' was not working, but only on the Timmelsjoch road.
Anyway, for now it is working! Thank you for your time anyway.

I went to this museum last year, you'll love it, lots to see. They've even got lockers as you go in on your left. Enjoy it, and your trip overall.

Thanks Garry. We drove through there two years ago, but we were on such a tight deadline to get from Innsbruck down to Brescia that we couldn't stop at the museum. I am looking forward to taking my time this year!
Cheers, Tom.

And now it's not working again. Argh!

@Tom-Grzelinski
The placed waypoints have numbers. And those numbers must be in order of the route. In your route the numbers were mixed up. -
@Jack-van-Tilburg
Hi Jack, I know this and I also thought maybe the numbers were not in order, but this is not the problem.Take a look at the map now, with all the extra waypoints removed and you will see that MRA / HERE is refusing to route back from Solden (54) direct to point 56.
Interestingly, if you delete waypoint 55, it all works correctly, but only for a short time (2-5 mins?) before the map goes back to routing through Innsbruck.

@Tom-Grzelinski
Make sure that all your waypoints are on the road.
As soon as I correct 54 the route is corrected. -
@Jack-van-Tilburg
Wow, thank you Jack, well spotted.I was sure I had checked that, but obviously not. Lesson learned!

@Tom-Grzelinski
I'm just here to say I'm jealous. Carry on!Actually, on point 38, I'd move that to be after the junction otherwise you may get waypoint information showing during the ride rather than turn information, and the turn info is more important. Like so:
Before:
After:
Same for 35, etc.
Placing points right on junctions always feels like the right thing to do when you're looking at the map, but not necessarily when you're actually riding.
One other tip is when you click on the waypoint and get the little info pop-up, if you then click the magnifiying glass that zooms you in to the max level of detail. Then use the left/right arrows to go along and check every waypoint - it's quick and efficient (well, until you find a problem ).

@richtea999
RichTea - thank you! You are welcome to join me in September. I will be doing this in the car though as I am not sure I could ride my Ducati 998 that far without my arms falling off!This is my rough map and I will then go in and check each waypoint and move them, especially at junctions, but thanks for pointing those out.
Your 'one other tip' is awesome, thank you for this, that will save a lot of time.
Cheers, Tom.

Hi Tom,
great plan, but that route is a mess. No offense, but there are so much more misplaced waypoints...^^
I do agree that there may be an issue with Timmelsjoch seasonal closing depending on what map you are using. HERE can do it correct or not when reloading on my PC.
BTW: in my opinion, you are missing some of the best experience of those roads by returning at the top of some passes.
For your consideration a personal POI list with more than 600 entries that may give some additional options.

Hi André,
Give me a break, this is a rough map! I know it has issues and I’ll be spending this weekend tidying it up.
Seriously, thank you for your link. I will look through it this weekend. My route is based on my past experiences, looking at shared routes here on MRA and being aware of time limits and trying to do as much as possible each day.
BUT, if I am missing good drives, then I am very happy to alter my route.
I have not booked any hotels yet, so everything is flexible.
I will keep my map public and will do a big update, and tidy up this weekend, for you and Josef.
Cheers, have a great weekend,
Tom -
Hi André,
I have had a quick look at your POI map - wow!
You say I am "missing some of the best experience of those roads by returning at the top of some passes." Please help me with these.
Your map has so many POIs, but no route. Please tell me some of your favourite locations near my route that stand out for you, and I will try to change my journey.
Thank you,
Tom. -
@Tom-Grzelinski
The Timmelsjoch problem is back, even with very few waypoints, all correctly positioned on the roads! So, maybe these were not the problem?See the map here:
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/8734835?mode=shareThe problem is between points 53 to 56. I want to drive from 53 to 56 and then back down the same road to 56. I do not want to be routed up to Innsbruck!
If I delete a waypoint, like 55, then the map works as it should. But then later (5 mins) it reverts to routing up to Innsbruck.
Can anyone from MRA shed light on this problem that @Erdna has experienced too?
-
@Tom-Grzelinski WHAT??? Come on mate, I did these kind of tours on a 900SS, 916 and a 999
Tips: split every day in its own route, you have more overview.
Change your "highlights" in your route (red, yellow and green) into waypoints. In stead a upsidedown waterdrop change it into a hand. In that case you will be notified when you arrive at that point. -
@Tom-Grzelinski the problem lies in a little piece of road on the Timmelsjoch in the direction of Sölden. If you place the shapingpoints like this, the problem should be solved. Try to toggle with point 54, drag it somewhat to the south and you will see that the problem comes back again. The markers in my example should solve it.

@travellexwill-cyou
Thanks Will, it was always my intention to cut this in to separate days. I think I said that earlier. This is my overview of the whole route.Ha ha, I find my 749RS so much more comfortable than the 998, but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for my license?) it is not road legal
