App Crashing
-
So, I've been using the app quite a lot recently and unfortunately, I've been experiencing quite a few app crashes.
I think its mainly occurring while the app is switching from online to offline or back to online whilst trying to recalculate. It's also strange that the app is trying to recalculate as I'm still on the planned route.
It's quite frustrating when the app crashes as I cannot simply restart and continue navigation. The button to resume pops up, but it doesn't work. Something is calculating in the background and the app either freezes or another pop up displaying a "Something went wrong" message. Everytime the app has crashed, I've had to completely stop the app and restart it, then completely re-load the route.
This is a huge pain as you cannot do this while riding. I have to pull over and start again. It's also a pain as I'm leading a group of upto 20 riders...I never had this issue with the old navigation app.
It's also not just my Android device. A friend was using his Apple phone yesterday and his crashed twice on a 2hr ride. On that ride, mine crashed once.
Today, on a different ride I had two more app crashes. Is there an error log or something that can be saved that could help identify why this is happening?

@Matthew-Wiacek If you go to your account page and scroll to the bottom, you’ll see the app version number. A long press on this produces a crash log.
-
@Matthew-Wiacek Have you tried using it offline from the start? I would think if it's crashing on the switch, maybe going offline only would work.
-
@Tom-Cat I have set preferences to offline, but generally something doesn't work correctly and a message appears saying it needs to go back online.
Clicking OK puts it back in this mode where it'll switch online/offline and back as necessary. -
@Nick-Carthew That's very useful to know.
Where and who should I send it to is the next question... -
@Matthew-Wiacek Via e-mail to support@myrouteapp.com
Include what you were doing when the app crashed. -

To back up Matthew's experience, some of us (3 out of 4) using it in Wales had the same experience - the app crashed maybe 5 or 6 times in 2 days, but never at the same time, so it was definitely a bit random and probably not faulty map/positional data related.
Around home, where network/data signal is less intermittent the app is very stable, so it does seem to be network coverage-related.
I have offline maps, and the routes downloaded (as routes not tracks), but not in offline mode, so I'd hope there would be a seamless handover from offline to online and vice versa.
Recovery is good, but you still have to stop, gloves off, restart the app, resume navigation, gloves on, go.
Apart from that niggle, the app did its job well. And it barely rained. But I had selected the Functional -> Weather Settings -> Rain: Yes/No

I have the same too, before the last update I went offline to France, the route almost 1200 km no problem, after the last update. Back home 900Km 4x stuck, difficult to close the route and start up sometimes also restart the tablet.
When I am online, the app indicates that I am offline, even though I close the app and the route and restart it.
And what's in the other posts offline and online seems to have something to do with it.If the app gets stuck, you don't notice it at first, the triangle just follows the route, but if you look closely at the distance of the upcoming route point, it stands still, the same thing happens with the first upcoming exit, they don't get any closer Besides, you will no longer hear the voice messages if you suddenly see the exit coming.
The navigation then works just like the free version, you follow the trail without further instructions.I've never had this before.
@Corjan-Meijerink Have you had any comments on this yet?
-
@G-Grote-Ganseij interesting, at this point I cannot say anything sensible. We are currently working on quite some stability features
-
@Corjan-Meijerink Okay wait and see keep an eye on it yourself if this happens again.
Thank you -
@G-Grote-Ganseij Do you need logs when it happens Corjan, or do you have enough to go on?
I'm happy to stop and catch the next few as they occur since I'll be riding on my own. -
@richtea999 if you got any specific occurrence of the issue, please record the time and send me the logs
-
@Corjan-Meijerink Will do

I had this same issue last week with the frozen data at the bottom but the pointer was moving ok.
I specifically went out yesterday to try to record the issue but Sod’s Law kicked in and it worked fine.
The other issue I have is that when loading a route from the downloads folder I often get a completely blank grey screen.
This can happen 3 to 4 times in a row but will eventually load the route. -

But if it barely rained, it rained, so that setting is far from perfect...

I see this post is kind of old, however, the latest release was to fix crashing issues. I had no less than 10 crashes yesterday. I also noticed when it restarted the next turn was frozen to the original spot where the crash happened and would not updated. I submitted several crash notices without documenting what happened because it was impossible to do on the bike. Becoming very frustrated with the app and useless car play integration.
