Motorhome & motorcycle support!
-
Hey all!
As of now, the website supports creating routes for motorhomes and motorcycles! When using the HERE / TomTom map, you can use these new options.
Another new option for these maps is that you can switch between fastest and shortest routes! Note: only supported for driving and camper
Everything should work rather self explanatory so why don't you give it a go?
FAQ:
Is motor mode new?
Yes! The default driving mode always was a car.
Why would I use motor mode?
To allow routes that are eg. only allowed for motorcycles In the majority of all situations, there won't be a large difference for cars / motorcycles.
How do I change my motorhome dimensions?
Go to your account page!
Can I choose a default mode?
Yes, go to your account page!
Are motorhome routes guaranteed to be suitable for my vehicle?
No! You always need to pay attention yourself. MyRoute-app cannot be held accountable for any issues you encounter while on the road. If we say your 4m high vehicle can go through a tunnel and there is a sign which says "<3.8m", do not try.
When will the app support this?
As of version 4.0.3! This will go into Beta tomorrow and will be released to the public next week (if no serious issues encountered by our Beta test-group).
Best,
Corjan -

Great work Team!. When you choose driving and shortest route the route will pass without a problem the ferry's in the Netherlands (Almost All )

I just tested making a route for motor home in the Netherlands. When only switching off toll roads, it calculates a route avoiding highways. In this country there are no toll roads. I used the Here Gold map.

Are you still going to synchronize the terminology with the app?
-
@Corjan-Meijerink I would wish it to be possible when indicating motorcycle that you can put down dimensions - since I am riding a trike. I am smaller than a car (width) but obviously wider than 2wheelers. So not all routes suitable for motorbikes are suitable for me, as well as that I can ride smaller/ narrower roads than cars can.
Would ik be possible to add that option, please?
-
@Inge-Bakermans that would not be possible. Trikes are by default vehicles with more than 2 wheels (with quite some power) and thus treated as a car.
For cars the vehicle dimensions are not supported as by law they are within certain bounds
-
@Inge-Bakermans That only makes sense if Here as a mapp provider also has a profile for trikes! If Here categorizes the trike under motorcycles, then it's pointless to enter the dimensions of the trike.
-
@Corjan-Meijerink Ok, bummer had hoped it being possible.
Maybe then is it possible for route creators, making the motorcycle routes, to indicate when a part of the route/ track is only possible on 2wheels. I happened to encounter that this past holiday. Which means having to make an instant adaption of the route - would be nice if that could be done beforehand.

Hi Inge. When you say route creators are you referencing the MRA RouteXperts?
The RouteXpert routes should already make it clear in the route summary if there could be any obstacles like only possible for two wheels.
If it was a RX route that you had problems with, I would appreciate it if you could inform me which one and which section that only two wheels could use please.
You can message me via this forum.
Thanks -
@Nick-Carthew Hi Nick, yep I was referencing to the MRA RouteXperts. I can't remember which route they were on - if I come across the tracks/ routes I will let you know.
One I remember was at a watercrossing before Minehead next to Allerford packhorse bridge. Waterlevels were too high for me to cross. But that could be the result of rain falling down by the buckets.
And another one was near a castle ruin - do no remember which one - but am sure will come acoss it when editting filmmaterial. Will let you know when I find it.
Beside mentioning the obstacles eg only possible for 2 wheels - it would be very helpful if that part of the track somehow could could be marked (specific colour?) so that beforehand the route, for that part, could be adapted to to 3 or more wheels.
Do not get me wong I thoroughly enjoyed the routes made during my trip around Southern England. Did some very steep roads (33%/33% descent/ ascend), as well as mega narrow tracks with mud/ grass in middle _ I would not have found on my own.
-
Hi Inge. Thank you for your reply.
The ford at Allerford used to cross the river is not actually part of the route. A route point was positioned there to highlight this ancient river crossing. It is the decision of the traveller whether to use it or not. This is why it wasn’t mentioned in the route summary. However, I have adjusted the information to the route summary and the route point note and added a caution icon.If you can find the castle ruin route, I will assess that route too.
Thank you for pointing these out. -
@Nick-Carthew You're welcome!
Did not realize that - but thanks for having added it. Good that it makes future riders aware of this -

Hi, at least in Germany as far as I know the restriction is usually that a road is prohibited in general or for certain days of the week and/or time for motorcycles. So, from the German motorcyclist's point of view the feature is great, but of course it requires good maintenance of data: this web site is very well maintained: http://www.mintelonline.de/Streckensperrungen/

Recently I tested the motorhome feature on Carplay, with the following results:
- navigation works great with Here maps
- the colors on the display are rather blueish on the display
- My motorhome settings are: H=3,00 m, W=2,25, L=10 m, incuding trailer, Weight=3,5 ton
While navigating the following signs were showing up:
The traffic signs on the pictures are not applicable to my motorhome: It is not a truck and is not carrying hazardous substances (lower picture). Is it possible that only the applicables traffic sign are showing?
On many secundary roads the sign "forbidden for truck" is showing up.-
I am missing the option to avoid environmental zones (like Garmin).
-
When switching off the engine, the Carplay unit is switched off. When restarting the engine on the Iphone (14pro) a notification shows that the app has crashed.

@Rob-de-Weijze thanks for sharing!
Avoiding those zones will be added in the future!
