Just a thought that would be nice is to be able to set how often based on ride time or distance to set waypoints. I'm currently doing it manually to remind me to take breaks and fuel. Typically, I set them every 100 miles. My bike has a range of 230 miles, so I rest at one and gas up on the other.

When planning my routes, after laying out the waypoints. On the ones for fueling up, I then search around that waypoint for places to get gas.

Anyway, I just thought that other's might appreciate a feature like this.

@lasironayahoo-com I think I've read that it is recommended to insert a waypoint every 5km or so to ensure that satnavs etc stick to the planned route. It would be a useful feature if MRA would offer this as an option when planning a route

@Michael-Wilkinson I have seen when exporting from MRA to BMW Connected App, there's typically 2 routes downloaded. One with minimal amount of waypoints and the route doesn't follow the roads, the second navigation route has thousands of waypoints. I wonder if this conversion is done automatically with an export. When I see this, I export gpx v1.1 and it has 2 or 3 routes/tracks within the export.

          Have you tried this?

@Michael-Wilkinson the way I typically import is with gpx v1.1 with 3 different tracks. I typically import the minimal waypoint version and select the 3 dot menu and have it converted to a list of waypoints. This allows Connected App to adjust for fuel stops and/or traffic re-routes.

I'm starting to go on longer rides and have to plan fuel stops more closely. Bouncing a waypoint around on the map until I have an idea of where my fuel range is, then looking for fuel is not ideal. I just thought it would be nice to have a menu item to click that's configurable on frequency of viapoints (I believe that's what it's called), just something to be a visual marker while planning a trip.

@lasironayahoo-com Why not simply take the overall route length e.g 200 km, decide the distance between waypoints e.g. 5 km, divide 200 / 5 = 40 - expand the route to 40 WPs - DONE!
Same would work with time required for the whole route

If you want a break after 100 km - this would be at WP 21

All assuming, that expanding is distributing WPs evenly

I've had similar thoughts about placing waypoints, but for a different purpose. When building a large route (our upcoming trip is 10 days) I'd like to locate a waypoint a fixed time or distance along the route.

An example: I have a long route built for 10 days riding. Some roads are slow and twisty. I know that we'll need to find lodging after about 6 hours on the bike. So from the day's start, I drop a few waypoints, and look at the distance and time shown in the waypoint side menu. I move or add waypoints as needed.

Being able to add one waypoint 6 hours along the route would make this a quicker process. I could see the value on automatically adding a number of waypoints every 6 hours along the route.

@Adam-Sobanski are you suggesting there's already a way to layout evenly distributed waypoints? Is by distance only? Or, is this time-based? And, where is this feature hidden?

If it exists, I currently don't know how to access it...

Disregard my previous question... I just found the feature under Toolkit -> Expand. Unfortunately, it only works by adding waypoints an even distance apart and not by time. For me, I'm currently managing day trips, but when I expand further. It'll be nice to have the time based expansion available.

@lasironayahoo-com I would rather take the list of way-points that estimate per way-point the time until being there - and then just change the waypoint to what ever you need: break, gas-station
However, I have mostly unplanned and changing biological and other needs, that I cannot plan them day / weeks in advance and tell my body: you will get a break every 4,5 hours
