I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebar to the saddle.

          @Con-Hennekens

Voor mij zijn er een aantal nadelen:

          • extra simkaart aankopen
          • apart opladen
          • updates installeren

                @Bart-DM, Tja...

                • Extra SIM is niet nodig als je tethert (hotspot).

@Dikke-Wim, many users have a 8" Samsung Active Tab 3:

But I find it very funny that people were very satisfied with their 3.5" zumo 550 with 320 x 240 pixels just over 5 years ago 😉

                    A few comments...

I once questioned the value of a dedicated CarPlay/Android Display Device. I no longer do.

Here are some of the rubs using a second phone/device...

The environment that second phones/devices are subjected to may not be the most conducive for them. Direct sunlight/Heat and cold are issues for battery wear/lifecycle and charging. Vibe/shock are also a concern (particularly for some iPhone cameras IIRC). Over time these devices become unsupported and software/OS updates may become an issue.

On the other hand... CP/AA display devices are sold under various brand names. You can pick them up cheaply on AliExpress ($125). They don't have a battery, so no worries about heat/cold/charge cycles killing the battery and the cost of replacements. They are at least rated IP67, so no problems there. Hard telling (doubtful) if they've had any environmental qualification testing for such things as shock and vibe. But, they seem to be designed/built robust enough for most general motorcycle needs. Software/firmware updates are easy enough to install (just make sure you buy from a brand that provides support and timely software/firmware updates). Personally I find both the CP and AA UIs to be well suited for use in cars and on bikes. Also, the setup works well with intercoms.

So, a CP/AA display device seems like a cheap and effective option for this use case. Why subject an expensive piece of hardware to an ill-suited/harsh environment when this cheap display device can take the punishment instead? Plus, it provides a nice display and UI in the process. Personally, I connect my supporting (BT/WiFi connected) phone to my bikes USB port and toss it in my windshield bag. It's protected from the elements in the bag and is not rigidly mounted to the bike (no shock/vibe). It maintains a charge (controlled by a Chargie) and the power demand on the battery/charger is minimal (similar to use in a car running CP/AA).

                    My 2 cents.

@Tim-Thompson, there is always a downside to everything. Most of your arguments make me favor a nice and cheap Android rugged phone. All depends on which phone you choose.

                      • you can take it off the bike
                      • you can take it to a second bike
                      • you can use it on battery, say while drinking coffee
                      • you need to connect only one device
                      • it does all other things like music, speedcams etc.

In any motorcycle forum almost all GPS questions are about how to connect multiple device in the right order, or about problems with AA/Carplay. That for me alone is enough to not want such a thing. There's nothing like native! If such a device existed with native Android, integrated motor mount, able to natively run MyRoute-app without the hassle of AA/CarPlay, I would not hesitate.

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!

                        Ok... So about your points...

                        • You can take the CP/AA display device off the bike as well. It has a cradle and pops in and out of the cradle in seconds. The cradle is mounted via standard Ram mount.
                        • All you need to do is to wire power for the second bike and add a Ram mount and you could transfer between bikes easily enough. However, since it's so cheap, might just buy another one for the second bike.
                        • Why would you want to use it while drinking coffee? Got the phone for that. You might want to pop the display out of it's cradle and take it with you - depending on where you stop -so it doesn't get ripped off (same goes for any device/phone). Or toss it into a lockable saddle bag.
                        • Not sure what you mean by only needing to connect to one device. However, when the CP/AA device is installed, you only need to connect it to as many devices as you intend to use (i.e. phone, intercom). The good thing - once you do the initial setup - all the devices connect automatically. All I have to do is plug my phone into the bike's USB port for power and toss it into my windshield bag. The CP/AA display device will connect to the phone automatically when the display device powers on (when you either turn the bike's power on or start the bike). Same goes for the intercom. Just turn the intercom on and it connects automatically. Seems pretty easy/effortless to me.
                        • The CP/AA display device does all the extra stuff too. Music, podcast, phone, navigation etc. Whatever apps you got that are CP/AA compatible it does it. Should also add weather radar to the list. Got weather radar apps for both CP and AA. The weather radar apps come in handy for being aware of incoming rain and helps you avoid it or navigate around it.

Like I mentioned... the interfacing/interplay with my other devices is pretty seamless with the CP/AA display device. It has worked and connected to my other devices automatically every time without issue.

@Tim-Thompson my s20 phone will only connect to one BT device. If I connect to an AA device, how do I connect my phone to my BT headset (cardo)?

I connect both my phone and my intercom to the CP/AA display device. The CP/AA display device becomes the UI/Front End for both the phone and intercom. The only exception is the direct intercom connecting between the two intercoms (mine and my wife's). That direct connection is established with a button on the intercom.

@Doug-Robinson, You connect your headset to your AA device. But thanks for making my point. These are exactly the questions I meant 😉

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!
